One of the better additions to the Zelda series in Breath of the Wild are the dozens of mini-bosses scattered across Hyrule's map, giving players some memorable battles that are as challenging as they are unexpected. One of these mini-boss varieties, which can be found very early in the game, is the Stone Talus.

These stone behemoths are slow, with an easy-to-spot weak point that makes them a great starting point for any new players who are wanting something more challenging than a Bokoblin, but less intense than a Lynel.

Updated on March 6, 2023 by Quinton O'Connor: Tears of the Kingdom is nearly upon us, so we reckon many Breath of the Wild fans may be revisiting this vast rendition of Hyrule for the first time in years. If that's you, and you happen to be on the hunt for the Stone Talus enemies, we've got you covered.

11 Hopper Pond

Great Plateau Talus fight

Master Mode in Breath of the Wild is kind enough to drop a Lynel in the plains just below the destroyed Temple of Time, but the standard mode also has a Stone Talus near Hopper Pond, just to the left of the entrance to the shrine of resurrection. Despite how close it is to where Link wakes up, it isn't recommended that players fight this mini-boss without a much stronger weapon, since most weapons this early in the game break well before they are able to kill anything.

10 Deya Village Ruins

Deya Lake Ruins Talus fight

Aside from being able to find one of the DLC side mission journals for new armor in Deya Village Ruins, there are also several somewhat well-hidden enemies, including a Stone Talus sleeping in the shallows. This is one area where players should be very careful in not using lightning based weapons, since Link is more likely to shock himself than anyone else. The ruined buildings scattered around also make for good cover spots to hide from the Talus' thrown rocks, so they should be used if players aren't as good at fighting them.

9 West Necluda North

Dueling Peaks Talus fight 1

The giant mountain known as Dueling Peaks has many secrets hiding on the trek to its peaks and the shrines that sit atop them, including Stone Talus'. On the north side of Dueling Peaks, which can easily be reached by gliding from the tower, players will find a Stone Talus about halfway up the mountain. Players should be very careful here, as one wrong move could send Link tumbling all the way back down the mountain to his death.

8 West Necluda South

Dueling Peaks Talus fight 2

On the opposite side of Dueling Peaks, players can find yet another Stone Talus, though this one isn't as easy to reach. Instead of gliding from the nearby tower, it is much easier to reach the plain from the shrine at the very top, as it is somewhat hidden from view from the tower.

The area here is much larger than where Link must fight the Talus on the north side, so falling to his death isn't an issue, but you should be wary of the cold if they teleport to the top of the mountain first.

7 Nabi Lake

Nabi Lake Talus fight

Easily accessible from the Dueling Peaks tower, north-west of South Nabi Lake, is an island area that holds many common enemies, suck as ChuChu, Bokoblin, and Moblin. There is also a Stone Talus hiding among the trees here, which can easily be missed if players are focused on lesser enemies instead. Like with the Deya Village Ruins, there are many places where Link can take cover from thrown rocks if he needs to, making this one of the easier fights.

6 Lake Seila

Mable Ridge Talus fight

On the shore of Lake Seila in North Mable Ridge, there is a small plain area that holds a very out of place Stone Talus. Unlike several other Talus fights, the battlefield here is quite enclosed which makes it much harder to dodge thrown rocks. In this instance, it is easier to use Stasis+ to freeze the Talus while shooting its weak point with an arrow to temporarily stun it. This way, players can take down the Talus with anything particularly strong before it has a chance to throw rocks at all.

5 Martha's Landing

Martha's Landing Talus fight

Way down south on the map in Martha's Landing, a coastal beach area surrounded by rocks. There is a Talus sleeping on the shore that is well camouflaged among multiple other rocks and dead Guardians. This Talus is very easy to miss compared to others, since its placement among the other rocks isn't as easy to spot as Taluses that sleep out in the open. As this is a fairly open area, it is a fairly easy fight, but players should be wary of the cliffside behind them, as they can get cornered very fast if they aren't paying attention to their surroundings.

4 Floria Falls

Floria Falls Talus Fight

North of Floria Bridge and west of Ebara Forest is a short, grassy outcrop surrounded by trees and ruins. It is a fairly narrow section and the Talus is well hidden, meaning it is easy for the creature to sneak up on Link if you aren't paying attention.

The narrow nature of this area means the only real way to deal with this Talus is head-on, since there isn't enough ground to dodge rocks without being hit, and there is also the risk of being thrown into the water below if Link is too close to the cliff edge.

3 Gama Cove

Gama Cove Talus fight

Located near the Gogobi Shores and Cape Cales, close to a good launching point to reach Eventide Island, is a small cove carved out of the side of the beach. This is easily the most enclosed area where a Stone Talus can be found, though is a little easier than the Floria Falls Talus since there is no risk of falling off of the side. Like the Floria Falls Talus, the best approach here is to face it head-on, using Stasis+ and arrows to hit its weak spot quickly.

2 Ovli Plain

Ovli Plain Talus fight

Located between Nirvata Lake and Camphor Pond, the Ovli Plain doesn't really live up to its name and there are many hills and rocky outcrops in the area. The Talus here is found on one of the few flats in the area, but isn't as enclosed as it appears at first glance, making this a relatively easy fight compared to others. There is a small risk of falling into the lake if players stray too far from where it sleeps, but that can be avoided by simply going the other direction.

1 Cliffs Of Quince

Cliffs of Quince Talus battle

Very close to Ovli Plain are the Cliffs of Quince, a mountain that is relatively short compared to others on the map. On the highest peak of the cliffs is a small, flat region that holds a Talus on top. Like with the Floria Falls, it is easy to be thrown from this plain if players aren't careful, though there is no water to break Link's fall here so be extra mindful.
