If you cast your mind back to the last open world game you played, it's almost certain that you'll have used your in-game map to get around. How could you not? Open world games are so massive nowadays that it can be very easy to get lost without a waypoint or a marker guiding you to your chosen destination, but that's a challenge one brave Breath of the Wild player has managed to pull off as they recently shared their victory in beating the title without a working map.
First posted to the Breath of the Wild subreddit, u/LusciousRonaldo shares an image of a map littered with various shrines, towers, and stables, although none of the surrounding areas have been filled in. The only portion of the map that is actually visible is the starting area, likely because the game forces you to activate a tower to progress.
To make it crystal clear as to how u/LusciousRonaldo managed to pull this off, they also share an image of their map displaying the Hero's Journey, a feature that tracks your movements with a green line across your entire time with the game. From this, we can gather that the player spent very little time mucking around, stuck to the main roads as often as possible, and had a pretty detailed knowledge of where things were and how to get ot them. It basically required an in-depth knowledge of Hyrule that very few people possess.
If you're wondering why someone would put themself through that kind of trial, u/LusciousRonaldo explains in the replies that they wanted to "recapture some of that feeling of being lost" that they experienced during their first playthrough. I guess the game was starting lose its sense of mystery, as they also reveal that they'd already played the game 7 or 8 times before completing this challenge.
It won't be long before u/LusciousRonaldo has a new version of Hyrule to get lost in though, as The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom launches in a little over two months time on May 12.
