The Island of Snaktooth seems like a wonderful paradise of food-themed critters on the surface. Dig a little deeper, however, and things are a little darker in Bugsnax. As you play through the game, more and more questions are raised about the island, the nature of Bugsnax, and exactly what happened to Elizabert Megafig?

The actions you take during the last quest of the game will dictate the ending you get, and there are ways to ensure that you get the best ending possible for you and your fellow grumpuses. Here's our guide to the endings of Bugsnax.

Expect heavy spoilers for the resolution of the game from this point onwards.

How To Get The Bad Ending

Bugsnax Escape from Snaktooth Buggy Ball

The final quest of the game, Escape from Snaktooth, has you running around Snaxburg, defending the grumpuses called it home. You use upgraded, deadly versions of the tools you've been using throughout the game to defend them. It's your performance here that decides which ending you get.

The Bugsnax that you are attacking will swarm towards the grumpuses you are defending and force themselves down their throats, attempting to turn them into part of Snaktooth Island.

It is possible for grumpuses to die during this quest if they eat too many Bugsnax during the quest - the only one who is immune is Filbo. If a single one of the grumpuses dies, you will get the bad ending.

The ending will play out as normal, but with the surviving grumpuses on the beach possibly being more morose and dour than usual. The scene in Clumby's office plays out as normal, too.

How To Get The Good Ending

As you might expect, getting a good ending requires that you do not allow any of the grumpuses to die during Escape from Snaktooth. This can be tricky on some of the harder sections, such as protecting Chandlo and Snorpy, and Cromdo and Beffica.

Thankfully, there is a way to ensure a grumpus survives the mission with 100 percent efficiency. All you need to do is complete their sidequests before starting the final sequence.

Each grumpus has a sidequest consisting of multiple smaller quests, and completing them all will make them immune to death-by-Bugsnax in the final mission.

This ending is far more optimistic than the bad ending, as everyone survives. You will still lose your job, though. However, what sets it apart is the secret message that plays after the credits roll, revealing more about the game's story.

How To Get The Secret Ending

Getting the secret ending is largely the same as getting the good ending - you need to ensure that all grumpuses survive Escape from Snaktooth as usual.

The only additional requirement is that you enter the game's secret area - the Triplicate Space - and listen to every secret tape there.

In this ending, the message that normally plays after the credits will be replaced with a new one from the same person who recorded the secret tapes, hinting at further developments in the story and a possible DLC or sequel.
