Building is gone from Fortnite's Battle Royale modes for the next week.

One of the most frequent requests from Fortnite players is a no-building limited-time event, as many just enjoy Fortnite's shooting mechanics and don't want to get involved with creating massive sky-towers and bases.

Well, Epic listened and decided to go one step further, removing building from the Battle Royale mode for the next week as part of the recently-revealed Resistance season.

The news was reported by Fortnite leaker Hypex, who seems to have managed to get into the new season a little earlier, or perhaps found the file through datamining. The notice says "All battle, no building. Building has been wiped out. It's up to the Resistance to get it back. Jump in with your squad and help The Seven uncover the Imagined Order's nefarious plan".

Interestingly, this was actually teased during this season's cinematic trailer. Towards the end, Doctor Sloane can be seen pulling out a device that wipes out all of the builds in the surrounding area. Without the season's gameplay trailer, it was hard to tell whether this was just some kind of temporary item, or a hint at a limited-time mode, but as it turns out it's a temporary fixture for the whole game.

Although it's only temporary as part of the season's first week, players who really miss being able to build will be happy to know that it's unaffected in Competitive play, as revealed by Epic's Season overview, "Building is unaffected in competitive/Arena playlists as well as in Team Rumble and Creative Islands."

It's not clear how long building will be gone from Fortnite, but it's rumoured to be lasting for up to nine days. Epic hasn't given any kind of timeframe so far, but it seems likely that it won't be lasting for too long.

It's a pretty big change to Fortnite for a season update and not a brand-new chapter, but it's far from the only big addition that the Resistance season has brought along. The cinematic trailer also confirmed that parkour mechanics are coming to the game as a part of the player's base moveset.
