People still love Bully. It was a unique take on Rockstar's established open world formula. Instead of hunting down drug kingpins and blowing up cop cars, you had to contend with jocks, nerds, snooty teachers, and a kid who could charitably be referred to as a borderline psychopath (seriously, Gary was a bit extra.) Fans would love a Bully 2, but despite persistent rumors there's been no sign that Rockstar is even considering a sequel.

That was until today, when Polygon posted something that gave Bully fans cause for excitement about a new game. Shame that it was just a terrible joke.

Polygon posted an article that detailed the above Easter egg that was found in the Diamond Casino & Resort update for Grand Theft Auto Online. The piece mostly just talked about how this decoration looked like an awful lot like the coat of arms from Bully's Bullworth Academy. There didn't seem to be anything solid enough in the story to indicate an official Bully 2 announcement. However, one of the URLs for the article ended with "/bully-sequel-announced-fall-2020-news-embargoed-do-not-publish".

That was enough to get fans in an uproar, thinking that this was an accidental post, and that major news about Bully 2 had just leaked. It had to be real, after all, a major news site like Polygon wouldn't play such a cruel joke and get an entire fanbase riled up for no reason, right?

Turns it out that it was in fact a very stupid joke, and was likely intended to be a funny little jab at the constant rumors of Bully 2 being developed. Considering the article in question did involve people creating conspiracy theories based on an Easter egg, they do have a point. Still, it wasn't really made clear that the whole thing was a gag, and considering that Polygon is ostensibly a real news site, and not a satirical news site like The Onion, most people assumed that this was something to get hyped about.

Polygon has since apologized, and issued a statement saying "our original joke URL for this post has been changed. Sorry if that got your hopes up." Basically, they know about as much about a sequel as everyone else does - which is a bummer for Bully fans.

As for Bully 2, there are still several rumors flying around, but Rockstar has continued to keep quiet about what their next project will be. So for now, you should probably be a bit wary of rumors about Bully 2, GTA VI, or even Red Dead Redemption coming to the PC, until Rockstar descends from their golden palace in the sky and makes the announcement themselves.
