Despite looking much more prominent in the Jedi: Survivor key art, Cal Kestis' scars aren't new and have actually been about since Jedi: Fallen Order.

After months of being the gaming industry's worst-kept secret, EA finally gave us another look at Star Wars Jedi: Survivor just a few days ago. Beyond revealing that it'll get a gameplay trailer at The Game Awards, EA also showcased a new piece of key art, which shows Cal and BD-8 on a desert planet looking out at the horizon.

The most concrete thing that the key art shows is a new look for Cal, complete with a leather jacket (RIP poncho), blaster, and a significantly more grizzled face, complete with much more pronounced scars. The scars being much more visible in this key art, combined with the five years between Jedi: Fallen Order and Survivor, has some believing that these scars are new, but they've actually been there all along.

As pointed out by Redditor AnonDooDoo, all four of Cal's scars that can be seen in the Jedi: Survivor key art were there in Jedi: Fallen Order, although they were a little more subtle. The scar on his neck comes from the Order 66 attack, while the scars on his lip, eyebrow, and nose were never explained.

The reason why so many people (including myself) are assuming that these scars are new is that they've been made a lot more visible than they were in Fallen Order. The only scar that most would notice in that game was the one on his neck, as it was a bit darker than the rest, but they've now all been made to stand out much more.

Scars actually become less visible over time, so it's likely a result of a graphical upgrade and a purposeful choice to make them stand out more. Combine that with Cal's new facial hair, and it's easy to see why so many fans are just assuming that Cal's been in some more scraps in the five years since Fallen Order.
