Call of Duty is getting festive this holiday season with The Haunting of Verdansk update. Numerous changes to the multiplayer suite took effect on October 20th and will last until November 3rd. Not only are several playlists being added to the normal multiplayer offerings, but Warzone is undergoing some major changes, the eight most notable of which are detailed below.
Fortunately, players have a whole two weeks to experience the new Verdansk, leaving them plenty of time in between trick or treating and devouring candy for a few jumps into the map. While the new changes are scary, remember that it is just a video game and it cannot really hurt you.
8 Night Mode Battle Royale
The biggest change is the ability to play the traditional Battle Royale mode in a night time map. It is not quite as dark as the night time stages one finds in the multiplayer suite, but it is enough to change the way one explores the Eastern European setting. One thing to note is this mode is relegated exclusively to trios.
7 Surprise Scares
As if the environmental changes are not enough, more surprises await players while journeying through Verdansk. Be prepared for random images to pop up and scream at the player while walking through buildings and finding loot.
Battle Royale games are stressful enough with everybody out for your head, now it is even more pressure with the apparitions spooking players.
6 Ghosts
The darkness is not the only change to the map. One will find ghosts floating throughout areas, typically in buildings. From far away they look like normal players to some, especially in darkness. Be weary of this though, since one would hate to waste ammo on phantasms, especially in the beginning of a match when bullets are scarce. Fortunately, these ghosts are mostly harmless, save for the mental scars and scares they inflict on players.
5 Blood Money At Night
Plunder is one of the more unique ways to experience Verdansk. The regular Battle Royale rules are changed and players respawn an infinite amount of times as they make a mad dash for as much money as possible. For the recent update, players can experience this mode on a night time version of Verdansk. All shady deals go down at night, so it is only appropriate for this money-grabbing game mode to have a night time edition.
4 Horror Movie References
Several of these changes come chock full of iconic horror movie references. The title of the update alone is an obvious nod to The Haunting television series, which recently released its second miniseries, The Haunting of Bly Manor.
A bundle is named after The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and includes Leatherface as a playable character. The doll's mask from Saw is also unlockable, and the character is visible on several TV screens on the map.
3 Decorations
Verdansk has undergone many changes since Warzone's release in March. A train has started making its way through the map and the subway has opened up as well. While they may be harder to see due to the night time nature of the update, several aesthetic changes have taken effect for this event. Pumpkins are scattered throughout the area to help liven up the atmosphere. Halloween is supposed to be festive, but the new Verdansk is downright terrifying.
2 New Collectibles
In the night time Battle Royale mode there is more to do than simply hunt other players. Each area has hidden loot one must scrounge around for which unlocks Halloween-themed collectibles. The game is kind enough to include a checklist for players in the menu so they can keep track of the areas of the map where they have already found the treat.
1 Zombie Royale
Zombie Royale is a limited time mode which puts a spin on the genre's formula. After dying, the player is turned into a zombie with special abilities like increased jumping and an EMP. If the zombie collects two antiviral serums dropped by dead human players, they come back to life. The last human team standing wins. By the end matches become extremely hectic as teams fight other humans while making sure not to succumb to the walking dead lurking around.
