Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is one of the most popular games in recent memory, being the best-selling game for the last three straight months, but it has its fair share of glitches and bugs. Luckily, unlike the bugs that Warzone is constantly facing, this Cold War glitch appears to be purely visual—oh, and it lets you control the clouds.
Activision-Blizzard has stated that Call of Duty games will all tie into Warzone in one way or another. For Cold War, that has largely meant adding in weapons. However, those weapons were considered to be too overpowered for the rest of the game, with one of them going through two different nerfs to bring it down to a competitive level. Other glitches are being blamed on Cold War, though Warzone has several of its own.
This visual glitch can be found inside of Cold War's independent multiplayer servers. As demonstrated by Redditor u/MrBigBeans69, aiming down sights on at least one multiplayer map will result in a visual glitch that makes puffs of steam appear to shrink and grow on command.
While waiting for the game to start, the Redditor was killing time by aiming down their sights—in much the same way that you will find other players swapping weapons as fast as they can. However, something unique caught this player's eye. In the process of zooming in, the steam clouds in the distance would shrink. They also appeared to grow when the scope was pulled down.
If you force the animation to cycle multiple times, you can make the clouds do a sort of dance. It is likely that this glitch is due to the thermal scope that the Redditor is using, which shrinks the clouds to show the hotter parts. Oddly enough, the animation of the rest of the game works in conjunction with the action of aiming down sights. This creates the visual glitch of the steam clouds growing and shrinking.
There is no word on whether or not the other players could see the same glitch, or if it was just local—although it's almost certainly a local glitch. Either way, it's an amusing one and a nice break from the other bugs that Call of Duty suffers.
