Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War will get its first major update on December 16. Titled Season One, this update not only adds new modes and gear to the mix, but promises to be “the largest free content drop in Black Ops history.” So, if you thought the game’s file size was large earlier, this update is going to add a bit more gb to it.

Warzone will be adding another map to couple with Verdansk. It will bring in 30 Black Ops Cold War base weapons and Blueprint variants! It will also reimagine the Gulag feature of the game.

Black Ops Cold War will receive:

  • New multiplayer maps including 6v6 modes and playlists, 2v2 Gunfight on four new maps, and a new Fireteam map.
  • New Zombie modes with free-to-acquire weapons and seasonal challenges.

However, one of the biggest features coming to the game is the Synchronized Player Progression. “For the first time in Call of Duty history, Season One brings universal and synchronized player progression that works between Black Ops Cold War, Modern Warfare, and Warzone! Black Ops Cold War progression builds on a familiar and similar path to Modern Warfare while incorporating an innovative Prestige system, giving you more challenges and earnable content,” said a blog post by Activision.

What this means is that overall progression will sync between Call of Duty: Warzone, Modern Warfare and Black Ops Cold War once Season One drops on December 16.

Additionally, the Field Research and Certified bundles will give you access to epic operator skins, weapon blueprints, and other cosmetics. You can check out all the goodies the updates have to offer on the Call of Duty blog.

This shift in date from December 10 to December 16 also means that the game will not coincide with the launch of Cyberpunk 2077. Whether this was intentional is unclear, but the devs have mentioned that it gives them time to iron out the content roll out and address any issues with this cross platform and cross generational update.

There’s no concrete word on the actual size of this update, but as you can imagine, it’s going to be huge. It has been scattered over December 8, 15, and 16, so you won’t have to download it all at once.
