Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will have no season pass and feature fill crossplay compatibility between PC and consoles.

Activision just announced their latest entry into the Call of Duty series, and it’s a gritty, emotional reboot of the Modern Warfare series. Inspired by Modern Warfare 2’s No Russian mission, the single-player campaign will focus on tough decisions and intense combat situations.

It will also no have a season pass, and PC players will finally be able to play against console players.

In an email sent to PC Gamer, Activision confirmed that Modern Warfare is eschewing the usual season pass of DLC so that everyone can play together without compatibility issues.

"With the launch of Modern Warfare, the team is taking steps to unite the community. First, the team plans for Modern Warfare to be played together across PC and console through cross-play support," an Activision spokesperson said. "Also, the team is eliminating the traditional season pass, so that they can deliver more free maps and content as well as post-launch events to all players."

This is pretty huge news. Crossplay has been a dream of gamers for decades and only recently is it finally coming to fruition. And free content post-release is nothing to sneeze at either.

There is one thing that is some concern. It’s generally agreed among first-person shooter enthusiasts that the mouse and keyboard setup provides superior precision compared to thumbsticks on a gamepad. If PC players and consoles players will fight against each other, it seems the PC players will have a bit of an advantage.

We know that Modern Warfare will come with multiplayer at release, although no battle royale mode was mentioned. What we did hear about is a new co-op mode “featuring a collection of strategic co-op missions." This sounds like a form of limited 2-player campaign, but we’ll have to wait for more info to find out.

Likely we’ll get more from Activision at this year’s E3 presentations. Modern Warfare releases October 25th for Xbox One, PS4, and PC on Battle.net. Pre-orders are available now.
