October saw some of 2019's biggest game releases. Titles like The Outer Worlds, Ghost Recon Breakpoint, and Indivisible among others all came out during the month. Arguably, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Luigi's Mansion 3 were the two largest. While both are off to a great start, the former continues to dominate the latter in sales.
According to GamesIndustry.biz, the EMEAA (Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Australia) software charts illustrate Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's continued dominance in the market. Although Luigi's Mansion 3 has seen massive success on the Switch -standing as 2019's most successful Nintendo Switch launch-, it has failed to unseat the immensely popular Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.
Luigi's Mansion 3 has toppled FIFA 20, though, which now stands as this week's third best-selling title in the EMEAA chart. As can be seen below, the PS4's MediEvil remake maintains a solid ranking from the previous week, as does Nintendo's Ring Fit Adventure. Moreover, Grand Theft Auto V and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe continue to sustain their presence on the chart well after their respective releases.
Meanwhile, Ghost Recon Breakpoint has seen a bump from last week to EMEAA's seventh best-selling title. Rainbow Six Siege has, similarly, seen a bump up in place. Finally, The Outer Worlds makes the chart as this week's tenth best-selling game, down from its position last week as the fifth best-selling game.
This doesn't come as too much of a surprise. For one, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is available on multiple consoles while Luigi's Mansion 3 is available exclusively on the Nintendo Switch. Further, the game was anticipated as being one of 2019's most successful releases. With the beloved Modern Warfare name attached to it, the shooter was basically guaranteed to be a success from the start.
Whether Modern Warfare can sustain its profits into the holidays is another matter. It likely will, especially if the game gets some Black Friday discounts. However, big releases like Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Pokémon Sword & Shield, and Shenmue III may provide some tough competition for the gaming juggernaut.
