Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Season 2 has arrived, bringing with it a new 6v6 map, a returning multiplayer game mode in Resurgence, and multiplayer ranked play. That’s a lot of great stuff for multiplayer, but what about Warzone 2.0? Well, Warzone has a brand-new map, a bunch of new weapons, and sometime down the line, it’ll eventually get its own ranked mode for the very first time.

Infinity Ward made the announcement on Twitter confirming several new features coming in "Season 03 and beyond." Gunfight, the beloved small-scale multiplayer mode from 2019's Modern Warfare is on the way, as is Plunder, the Warzone mode that tasked operators with gathering as much cash as they could find. And finally, Warzone Ranked is something that is being looked into for an upcoming season.

We have no idea how Warzone Ranked will work, but we might be able to suss out a few clues from the recent implementation of multiplayer ranked. In Modern Warfare 2 ranked, players gain skill rating for winning matches and lose skill rating for losing matches. Given how there's only one real winner in a Warzone match (or one squad, but you get my point), it's likely that Warzone ranked will be a little more nuanced and probably use a player's placement as well as other statistics to determine a player's skill rating. Multiplayer ranked uses tiered skill divisions including Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Crimson, and Iridescent, and there's no reason for Warzone Ranked to be any different.

You can likely expect a top 250 leaderboard as well as a Rank system that provides players with unique rewards, too. All this is mere speculation, however, and we'll have to wait until Season 3 to find out more.

Modern Warfare 2's first season ran almost 80 days, so expect Season 2 to be around the same length.
