Living among the stars might sound magical and exciting, but it’s not until you’re running for your life that you start reconsidering it. After crash landing on Callisto and being detained at Black Iron prison, Jacob Lee finds himself in a horrific nightmare trying to survive alien-infected monsters in The Callisto Protocol.

People transforming into flesh-eating monsters already doesn’t make a whole lot of sense, but little does in a survival horror game. With things like monsters locked in chests and messages on walls, The Callisto Protocol has quite a few head-scratching moments. Let’s take a look at the many things that make no sense in the game.

The following article contains possible spoilers for The Callisto Protocol. Do not continue reading unless you have finished the game.

6 Monsters Locked In Chests

As a survival horror game, it’s key to search each area and room as thoroughly as possible. Jacob can find various items either scattered on the ground or inside chests. Unfortunately, Jacob might also find a bloodthirsty monster inside instead of some ammunition or health injectors.

Why is there a monster locked in a chest? It seems just a cruel way for the developers to get a kick out of trying to scare gamers. But let’s say the monsters were trapped inside the chests during the chaos, then why aren’t there any items in the chests too? It doesn’t make sense why there are so many chests filled with these creatures.

5 Switching To The Stun Baton

Jacob finds an iron hammer shortly after escaping his prison cell at the beginning of the game to fight against the infected monsters. The hammer is an effective weapon for blocking attacks and killing monsters, so why did Jacob swap it out for the stun baton?

Because there isn’t a way to gauge how much health enemies have, who really knows the difference in damage between the iron hammer and the stun baton? Even with the upgrades for the stun baton, there aren’t any abilities that can be performed with the baton that couldn’t with the hammer.

4 Health Injectors

The device on the back of Jacob’s neck displays a green bar that’s reflective of his health. You can find smaller health packs off enemies or larger health injectors to regain your health. Jacob having zero urgency when administering the injector doesn’t make any sense in its own right, but also the amount of health the injector provides.

If Jacob is near full health, why do you have to use the entire injector? Why can’t Jacob stop the injector and save the rest for later? When you find health packs off enemies, they say it will fill 30 percent of your health. So, why do we need to waste the whole injector?

3 Dani’s Infection

dani infected

After surviving the first clash with Captain Ferris, Dani is attacked by a face-sucking monster. Jacob manages to remove it from her face but, apparently, not fast enough to avoid Dani becoming infected. But how does she get infected so quickly when Jacob never gets infected when it happens to him?

Jacob’s had to remove monsters biting his upper body numerous times throughout the game and not once did he ever have the fear of being infected. So, it doesn’t make sense that Dani would suddenly become infected after being exposed to a monster one time.

2 Who’s Writing Messages On The Walls?

jacob reading messages on the wall

While making your way through the prison, you’ll see messages written in blood that say, “Death Is Coming” and “Kill The Virus.” There are also some helpful arrows that guide you down the right paths. Who’s taking the time to post all these things on the walls, and whose blood are they using?

Don’t get me wrong, these messages and arrows are extremely helpful. If we didn’t read “Shoot The Tentacles” we’d have a major problem on our hands. But if someone’s bleeding out, trying to write a message for someone you’re not even sure is coming is probably low on the priority list. And why would anyone write that death is coming? Instead of writing toxic messages, maybe focus on trying to find a way out.

1 How Does Jacob Survive?

elias and jacob talking

No, we’re not referring to Jacob’s somehow fighting back the wave of monsters while the building was being blown up around him. How does Jacob survive inside the Black Iron prison as a whole but the entire prison force is decimated?

We do find out that the terminator-like mechs were ordered to attack the guards, so it’s possible between those and the monsters all of the guards were killed. But it’s hard to imagine that not even one guard managed to hole up somewhere in the prison, that it was only Jacob, Elias, and Dani who were among the survivors.
