The Callisto Protocol may have been out less than a week, with some mixed reactions to Glenn Schofield's title especially regarding its performance, but the survival horror has already received the PS1 demake treatment.

Callisto Protocol has been suffering frame rate and performance issues on PC, with Steam users reporting numerous problems, but the game's demake runs like butter. It might help that the recreated game resembles a PS1 era title, but that's par for the course for a demake with the low-resolution polygonal look very on trend.

The demake has been developed with Unreal Engine and Blender to look like a survivor horror from the late 90s, with particular resemblance to the likes of Resident Evil and Parasite Eve. While Callisto Protocol's visuals are high grade with an atmosphere of its own, with Dead Space obviously in its DNA, the demake definitely has a special charm as you can see in the below video.

The demake is developed by Stark Crafts and is playable via downloading from the dev's Patreon (thanks PCGamesN). The demake comes with the monsters and melee combat that Calliso Protocol is known for and recreates the game's early sections. While there is the occasional stutter and graphical glitch overall the demake runs very well. Then again those survival horrors from the 90s do tend to have the occasional choppiness too so it perhaps works in its favour for that full PS1-era vibe.

The demake was made by Stark Crafts who seems to be a big fan of retro art and is inspired by the 3D aesthetic of the 1990s and 2000s, going by their Patreon, and also offers tutorials for those interested in lowpoly 3D.

The Callisto Protocol has seen performance issues which the director has commented on while a big patch has launched aiming to fix the stuttering that the PC version has been suffering from, with those on Steam leaving negative reviews over the issue.
