Arcades might be dead and gone, but Capcom will never let a good arcade game die when they could just package it with a bunch of other arcade games and sell 'em all on consoles. Which is exactly what they're doing with Capcom Arcade Stadium.
First released on the Nintendo Switch way back in February, Arcade Stadium first comes with a free copy of 1943: Battle for Midway while everything after that costs extra. You can buy up to 31 additional games, with packs of 10 priced at $14.99 each broken down by era, or buy all three packs for $39.99. Ghosts 'n Goblins, which was initially released as a free promotion for Arcade Stadium, costs a separate $1.99.
Capcom Arcade Stadium stays mostly true to each game's arcade roots, but a few things have been updated: notably, E. Honda's stage in Street Fighter II no longer has a rising sun flag, and Fei Long's stage now has a PRC flag rather than the flag of Hong Kong.
Other games available include Final Fight, Dynasty Warriors, Strider, 1941, 1942, 1943, 1944, and 19XX: The War Against Destiny.
Capcom promised a wider release on PS4, Xbox One, and PC "soon," and now "soon" has become May 25. It also comes with a few bits of additional content for non-mobile console players to enjoy.
First is a brand new "invincibility" mode that does pretty much what it says. You'll no longer have to worry about your quarter supply as you take endless bullets, fireballs, or swords to the face without dying. Capcom has priced this add-on at $0.99, which seems like a weird thing to charge for but then again, arcades were all about stealing your pocket change. Why change that now?
The other new feature is Display Frames Set 1, which adds game-themed display frames to your virtual arcade box. This DLC pack is also priced at $0.99, but you can get it for free if you buy Capcom Arcade Stadium between now and June 8.
If you're on Steam and just love retro arcade tunes, you'll also be able to purchase the Arcade Stadium album of 10 tracks for $9.99. Individual tracks can also be purchased for $1.49.
No new games were announced, but Capcom seems to be soliciting ideas for a new DLC pack of 10 games over on their Twitter. My vote is for UN Squadron.
