Are you tired of physical editions of games that still demand hefty downloads? Worry not, friends: the Mega Man Zero/ZX Legacy Collection is not about that life at all.

Now, call us picky, but it seems that a lot of publishers these days are kind of missing the point of a “physical edition.” It doesn’t mean that you get a pretty box with a download code unceremoniously plonked inside where the cartridge should be. Nor does it mean that there is a cartridge inside, but it’s mostly superfluous because you’re going to have to drop some hefty gigabytes to download the game anyway.

Except it apparently means both of these things to most publishers,  and lots of gamers have strong feelings about the whole situation. For others, of course, it’s not an issue. With a console like Nintendo Switch, the whole on-the-go thing fits well with a download-only lifestyle, if that’s your sort of thing.

But what if it isn’t? What if you buy the Spyro Reignited Trilogy physically on the Switch, only to find that you’ve bought yourself a cartridge and a one-way ticket to download city? You might not be amused. Especially considering that most Switch owners are struggling for SD card space as it is.

Never mind Spyro, though. We’re here to talk about another gaming icon who makes us feel all happy and content in our nostalgia-glands: Mega Man. Fans of the Blue Bomber's franchise who are feeling a little irked by the current ‘physical’ climate will be glad to hear that the upcoming Mega Man Zero/ZX Legacy Collection isn’t messing around. Just feast your eyes on this reassuring missive from the official Mega Man Twitter account:

Ah, yes. That’s physical with a capital P, just like mama used to make.

Of course, it’s easy to mock some of Capcom’s business practices, but at least this is a step in the right direction. Really, it’s quite a shame that publishers are proudly touting the fact that their physical editions of games are actually all on the disk/card, but that’s just where we are in gaming right now.
