The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is barely finished, but we already know what's in store for Sam and Bucky. A new Captain America movie is officially in the works, and Malcolm Spellman will return to co-write the script.

The announcement (via The Hollywood Reporter) tells us little else, but it does confirm that Spellman will share writing duties with Dalan Musson, who was a staff writer on Falcon and Winter Soldier. Spellman was the showrunner for Falcon and Winter Soldier, and also wrote and directed, so it's safe to say the movie will share much of the tone of the show.

Presumably Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan will reprise their roles as Sam and Bucky, but no villains or supporting cast have been confirmed. The release date is up in the air as well, as Marvel Studios has a lot of already announced movies to get through.

Spoilers for the big finale of Falcon and Winter Soldier, where we saw Sam Wilson take on the mantle of Captain America. He even donned a new red, white, and blue outfit that merges his falcon wings with the iconic shield. So it's pretty much a given that he will be the star of this upcoming movie.

Bucky, meanwhile, is on his way to making true amends. Zemo continues to do evil from his prison cell, and Sharon Carter is revealed as the Power Broker. Then there's John Walker, who now has a darker suit and his own shield, seemingly prepared to do black-ops work with Julia Luis-Dreyfus's Contessa. Needless to say, there's a lot of plot threads that could be picked up on.

Then again, a movie could be a great chance to explore Sam's introduction as Cap to the wider superhero world. How will the remaining Avengers react to his picking up the shield? Could Sam be at the forefront of a New Avengers team? With the multiverse taking on a more important role in Phase 4 of the MCU, the world is going to need more heroes than ever, and they're all going to need a leader.
