Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions has hit a milestone of half a million sales in both physical and digital copies of the sports game. After releasing worldwide on August 28, the latest game in the Captain Tsubasa series managed to become a global hit in its first week, selling over 500,000 units.
The fantasy sports game Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions brings a fresh take on the soccer genre with over the top action that made the original anime so popular. The game allows players to create their own team while each character has their own set of abilities and skills. With two different story modes, fans of the series can experience the events unfold from the anime or even become part of the world that the series has built. Along with that, players can partake in offline and online matches against four other players.
Tamsoft and Bandai Namco celebrated the news via a tweet on the game’s main page thanking fans for the support. Producer Katsuaki Tsuzuki shared a special video message expressing his gratitude for the milestone that the game has achieved while also announcing a new patch to bring in some improvements. Included in the patch is adjusting the difficulty level in some of the episodes, improved matchmaking, a new in-game notification, and improved game balance. Along with some fixes, the patch will also include some new content like a new shop selling top tier Training items and an online challenge and log-in bonus feature to gain new Captain Coins.
It's a remarkable achievement for Captain Tsubasa to hit since its last major release on the Nintendo DS back in 2010. The latest console title has been praised for its amazing graphics and co-op features, as well as its nostalgic factor for fans of the series.
Expect the patch to become accessible on the PS4 by the end of the month with Steam and Nintendo Switch to follow sometime in October. More details will be given during the Tokyo Game Show on September 27.
