The 90s was a great time for experimental cartoons. Many networks were playing around with what they could and couldn’t get away with in animation, and they were constantly pushing those limits. It was a time for strange imagery, jokes that went over your head as a kid (Animaniacs was infamous for this), and some pretty interesting characters.

Female characters in 90s cartoons were also going through their own changes. We were getting more interesting female characters that were more than just the token girl. These girls had more personality, more fire, and more development. This change was a welcome one, and we’ve only seen more changes as the years have gone by. You go, girls!

And many fans like to create fan art of all these female characters. But who wouldn’t? It’s fun to speculate what your favorite character might be like in different situations or even in the future. And it’s even more entertaining to imagine what these characters might be like as parents with kids of their own. What kind of mom would they be? Would they be strict or easygoing? Would they teach their kids the same things they learned, or would they go in a different direction? Would they welcome their new role as mothers, or would they be terrified? That’s what fans like to think about and play with.

So here are 20 cartoon characters from the 90s that have been reimagined as new moms. Let’s go celebrate the joy of motherhood!

20 Hopefully Her Kids Will Bring Honor To Us All

Via: grodansnagel.deviantart.com

Mulan is probably one of the toughest Disney Princesses, and she definitely has the highest body count out of all the princesses (taking out an entire Hun army will do that). And you know she would be an amazing mom. She’d totally be teaching her kids how to fight (and maybe how to pour proper cup of tea. Did she ever master that?)

Mulan would be an awesome and tough momma.

What I like about this art piece is that while Mulan isn’t exactly a new mom, she is working on kid #2 and you can tell this whole family is super happy. I wonder what her kids will do when they grow up? Maybe they’ll be generals?

19 It’s A Happy And Strange Family

Via: equigoyle.deviantart.com

I always liked Elisa in Gargoyles and I rooted for her and Goliath to get together. They’d make a pretty awesome couple, and she’s one of the people that helps convince Goliath to give humanity another chance. And she was a tough lady; you didn’t want to mess with her when she was angry.

While I don’t know if a human and a gargoyle could actually have kids, the idea of these two becoming parents is a fun one. I think Elisa would be an awesome mom. She’d be that no-nonsense type of mom who loves her kids dearly, and she isn’t afraid to lay down the law.

18 This Looks Like A Fun Playdate

Via: kireiscorner.deviantart.com

What made Hey Arnold! stand out was its huge cast of interesting characters. Each character had their own story and their own struggles. They were more than just archetypes that you’d normally get in cartoons; they were kids with their own unique problems.

And this art piece showcases some of the girls as proud mommas. All of their kids are so cute, and you can tell they’re having fun on their little get-together. Though I don’t envy Phoebe for having twins; while they are adorable, they would definitely be a handful. You’re doing great, ladies! Stay your fabulous selves and keep being supermoms!

17 This Kid Is Both Adorable And Slightly Creepy

Via: pinterest.com (Julie)

You can’t help but love Sally from Nightmare Before Christmas; she’s a total sweetheart. And the fact that she gets together with Jack in the end is amazing (you know you shipped it from the beginning). The two may look different, but they make a pretty nice couple.

How do skeleton and a humanoid ragdoll have a kid?

And I think Sally would be a great mom. She’s kind and compassionate, but she’s also pretty down to earth. (She was the only one who saw that Jack’s plan may end in disaster.) While I have no idea how a skeleton and a humanoid ragdoll could have a kid, I do think their child is super cute. I love that the kid has Jack’s face and Sally’s red hair.

16 Think Their Kid Will Have The Famous Laugh?

Via: instagram.com (gooftroopmax)

You have to admit that Max and Roxanne make a pretty cute couple. They’re both a little awkward, but they’re both honest in their feelings, and you can tell they do like each other a lot. It’s both adorable and entertaining.

While it’s canon that these two don’t last, many fans like the idea of Max and Roxanne becoming proud parents. And this art piece is rather adorable. Their kid is seriously cute and has the Goof’s signature buck teeth. I think Roxanne would be a wonderful mom. You know she’d love her kids with all her heart. (I don’t know what’s going on with Max’s beard, though.)

15 Watch Out For This Momma!

Via: jose-ramiro.deviantart.com

Did you know that quite a few people ship Angelica and Chuckie? (Well, when they’re older, of course.) I could maybe see it happening, though they would obviously have a lot of growing up to do. While young Angelica is pretty bratty, I could see older Angelica just being a go-getter type of mom.

And Angelica’s and Chuckie’s kids are pretty cute, according to this artist! I like that one has Angelica’s hair while the other totally has Chuckie’s. While this is Angelica’s second kid, you know she’s going to be an awesome mom. She’d probably be a relatively strict mom, but you know she’d love her kids.

14 It’s A Wonderful Kind Of Day For This Family

Via: dani-inks.deviantart.com

Remember Catherine, Francine’s older sister? She was kind of the epitome of a teenager, but not so angsty, which is nice. And while she and Francine fought pretty often, you could tell they do care for and love each other. But what would Catherine be like as a mom?

Their kid really takes after both of them.

Apparently, a lot of people ship Catherine with Chip, Muffy’s older brother. There was an episode where the two go on a date, but things don’t work out. But that didn’t stop fans, and this art piece shows the happy family. They do look pretty nice, and I think Catherine would make a good mom.

13 Her Kids Would Be Total Rebels

Via: instagram.com (KristenReevesArt)

It would’ve been nice to see Jasmine’s and Aladdin’s kids in any of the movies or TV series. You know they’d have some beautiful children. And while I think they’d both be a little hesitant to have kids right away, I think they’d warm up to parenthood pretty quickly.

I love this art piece because it shows a more modern Jasmine with her little boy and it’s just too cute! You can tell the boy has Aladdin’s eyes and he’s got that same slightly mischievous glint in them. Jasmine had better keep an eye on this one. Though considering her strict upbringing, I could see Jasmine be a more relaxed parent.

12 It's A New Generation Of Science Enthusiasts

Via: nebulan.deviantart.com

A lot of fans have speculated what the kids from The Magic School Bus got up to after the series. What would they be like in high school or college? Would some of them get together? How would they be as parents?

What I like about this art piece is that it has some of the popular character ships. I like Phoebe and Tim as a couple, and their kids are seriously cute. These ladies would be totally awesome moms, and I bet they’d want to make sure their kids learn about science like they did. I wonder if they’d ask Ms. Frizzle to teach their kids? That would be fun.

11 She’d Rock At Being A Mom

Via: jose-ramiro.deviantart.com

Out of all the babies, I feel like Lil had the most spunk. She wasn’t afraid to speak her mind and she had quite the personality. Combine her with her brother Phil, and you had a pretty fun pair of kids that got into a fair amount of trouble.

This artist apparently ships Lil with Tommy, which I think would be a fun match. Tommy’s more curious nature would blend well with Lil’s fiery personality. And I think Lil would be a cool mom. She’d probably take after her own mother and would be pretty relaxed with her kids. You go, Lil!

10 The Future Is Bright For These Two

Via: xjkenny.deviantart.com

Pretty much since we saw Artur and Francine fighting and teasing each other, we knew that they were eventually going to be together. (But when they’re older, of course. They’re only eight now.) And it was heavily implied in the show that the two did get married and grow old together.

She’d probably want her kids to play sports and be tough like her.

It’s fun to see this version of a pregnant Francine. You can tell that both she and Arthur are excited for their new arrival to come. And I think Francine would be an awesome mom. She’d probably want her kids to play sports and be tough like her. And she’d be a pretty cool mom, though you wouldn’t want to make her mad.

9 This Tale As Old As Time Is Very Sweet

Via: instagram.com (KristenReevesArt)

Belle is probably one of my favorite Disney Princesses, probably because I related to her the most. I loved the fact that she was a total bookworm and didn’t really care what the townspeople thought of her. And watching her interactions with Beast were so entertaining and sweet.

Belle would be such a loving mom, and you know that she would read to her kids constantly. It would be impossible for her kids to grow up not loving to read. Plus, Belle is such a kind and compassionate person that you know that she’d be a gentle mother. Though she definitely wouldn’t be a pushover. If Beast couldn’t faze her, a disobedient child will be no problem.

8 She’d Be A Tough Mom

Via: jose-ramiro.deviantart.com

Helga is probably one of the most interesting characters in Hey Arnold! She comes across as your typical bully, but when we get a better look at her home life, some of her behavior makes sense. Helga’s family is pretty dysfunctional, so it’s understandable that Helga is acting out a bit violently in response to that. She can be a jerk, but she does have feelings.

I think Helga as a mom would be very interesting. She would definitely want to break the cycle of dysfunctional families with her kids, but she’d probably also have a hard time at first. And according to this artist, she has twins, which would be doubly stressful.

7 Will Her Kids Paint With The Colors Of The Wind?

Via: ncfwhitetigress.deviantart.com

Pocahontas is pretty much the definition of a free spirit. She dares to interact with John Smith, and she takes a huge risk to stop war from erupting between her people and the colonizers. You have to admire her courage since that wouldn’t be an easy thing to do.

It's nice to see Pocahontas and John Rolfe with their child.

While many people prefer Pocahontas and John Smith together, it is nice to see a fan artist draw her and John Rolfe together with their child. Pocahontas would be a rather wise mother. She would teach her children the ways of her people, even if it may be frowned on. You’re not telling this lady what to do.

6 This Mother Is Going To Have A Wild Time

Via: ashren.deviantart.com

What’s pretty awesome about Jane is that even though she grew up a prim proper English lady, she eventually relaxes in the jungle. Her interactions with Tarzan in the beginning are both hilarious and very sweet. These two are fascinated by each other and it’s pretty obvious. And even though she’s initially awkward in the jungle, she’s still pretty feisty.

Jane would be a pretty awesome mom. She would definitely make sure her kids know how to read and write, and she’d probably teach them how to draw and paint. Hey, just because you live in the jungle, that doesn’t mean you can be uncivilized.

5 Her Future Is Looking Pretty Bright

Via: grodansnagel.deviantart.com

Anastasia may not be a Disney Princess, but she’s got plenty of personality, fire, and class to be one. While this young lady is royalty, she’s not afraid to tell others what she thinks of them, and she will punch you if you make her mad. That’s just what makes her so awesome.

I’m not sure what she’d be like as a mom. She would definitely be a loving mother, but I can’t decide if she’d be strict or more easygoing. Maybe she would be a relaxed parent; she’s never really been concerned about the rules before. Either way, Anastasia would rock it as a mom.

4 Bless My Soul! Her Kid Is Adorable

Via: weewillywinky.deviantart.com

Meg was always a nice contrast to Hercules. While Hercules was idealistic and a bit naïve, Meg was cynical and rather jaded. That’s what made them a rather sweet couple. What’s also fun about Meg is that she doesn’t really care what others think about her. She’s just out doing her thing and she’ll be fabulous while she does it.

Would her kids have super strength like their dad?

Meg as a mom would be pretty interesting. I can’t see her being an uptight mom, though it would be interesting to see how she handles things if her kids have super strength like their dad. Knowing her, she’d probably grumble at times, but she’d take it all in stride.

3 Her Kids Would Be Total Nerds

Via: jose-ramiro.deviantart.com

I always thought Phoebe was such a sweetheart in Hey Arnold! And she was amazingly patient to be friends with Helga. (Let’s face it, Helga had some issues and she did take advantage of Phoebe a lot.) And it was pretty cool that Phoebe was really smart; it’s always nice to see smart cartoon kids.

Phoebe would be that mom that focuses on education with her kids. She’d probably take her kids to museums, and maybe she would even homeschool them. But you know that she would love her kids with everything she has no matter what. And her kid in this art piece is so cute!

2 Would Her Kids Be Baby Swans?

Via: grodansnagel.deviantart.com

Odette is a rather sweet princess, but she definitely has a bit of fire to her. The fact that she and Derek fought constantly as kids growing up makes their eventual romance all the more entertaining. And she wasn’t afraid to stand up for herself at times. The fact that she was cursed to turn into a swan was pretty interesting too.

Odette would be very lovely as a mom. She would love her kids no matter what, and you know that she’d be there for them. I could see her being fairly strict, but she’d also be the type of mom that wasn’t afraid to have a little fun.

1 This Mom Is Proud Of Her Pup

Via: kanutgl.deviantart.com

The word I think of when I see Jenna is devotion. This lady dog was so loyal and devoted to her human Rosie that she barely left her side when she was ill. And her romance between Balto was very cute to watch. You can tell she’s not afraid to do what she has to do to protect those she loves. And she took on a bear; that’s seriously awesome.

Jenna would be a very kind mom, but also very firm.

We actually have seen Jenna as a mom in the second Balto movie, but it’s fun to see fan art of her and one of her pups. Jenna would be a very kind but also very firm mother. She loves her kids, but if you think you can disobey her, you’ve got another thing coming.
