Ah, villains. We love them, we love to hate them, and we love to see them rise and fall. After all, a hero is only as interesting as the villain they fight. Whether our favorite baddies are fighting for their own form of justice, or they just want to burn the world to the ground and watch laughing, we will always watch them.

What is it about villains that draw us to them? Why do we often remember a good villain more clearly than a good hero? Maybe it’s the fact that they’re different from us, or have different views on the world. Or maybe they’re more like us than we care to admit. I’m sure everyone has fantasized about doing something a bit darker than would be socially acceptable. And let’s face it, in a musical, the villains always have the coolest songs. We can’t deny it; we love the villains.

Cartoon fans are no exception when it comes to loving villains. Whether they’re campy, sinister, strange, or even relatable, villains in the 2000s cartoons especially can be pretty amazing at drawing you in and captivating you with their antics. But what if your favorite cartoon heroes were villains?

Have you ever wondered what your favorite cartoon characters would be like if they were a bit darker, or more dangerous? What would they look like if they weren’t so good? Well, many cartoon fans decided to create their own villainous versions of popular cartoon heroes. So here are 20 characters from 2000s cartoons reimagined as villains!

Think we missed any interesting good characters gone bad? Make sure to let us know in the comments below.

20 The Man Of Steel Can Break Things In Two

Via: dcplanet (Anas Riasat), pinterest.com (Lorenz Lammens)

For however many people loved Superman in the comics, there were also a lot of people that were afraid of him. And I can’t say I blame them. Superman is ridiculously powerful, practically godlike. If he wanted to, he could destroy Earth easily. It’s a good thing that Superman has a very strong moral compass (he’s not called the Boy Scout for nothing).

If Superman went evil, the Earth wouldn’t have a prayer. There have been some versions where Superman was evil or became a dictator, or was being mind controlled, and things never turned out well. I could see why people like Luthor and even Batman wanted to have a few contingency plans to take Superman out if he ever went rogue. If he did, it would be the end for everyone.

19 Don’t Anger The Avatar

Via: nerdlytube.tumblr.com, ebonyrightwriter.tumblr.com

Korra was very different from Aang. She had a temper, she was impatient, and she was always down for a fight. She had a lot to learn about interacting with both this world and the spirit world. But you can’t deny that Korra is crazy powerful. Even without the help of the Avatar State, she’s managed to take down some crazy powerful people.

Have there been any evil Avatars?

So, what happened if Korra went evil? It wouldn’t be too crazy. Some fans theorized that if she merged with Vaatu instead of Raava, that would’ve turned her evil. And there’s just the fact that Korra could’ve easily gone bad with everything she’s been through. Have there been any evil Avatars? Considering they have power over all four elements, that would spell disaster for the world if they decided to go dark side.

18 Something Is Wrong With Aang

Via: sractheninja.deviantart.com

Probably one of Avatar: The Last Airbender’s strengths was the way they wrote the main character, Aang. This is a twelve-year-old boy (well, he’s technically 112) who’s much wiser than you’d think. He understands the value of life and is willing to go to great lengths to show mercy to his enemies. And yet he still acts very much like a kid without being annoying. That’s not an easy feat to achieve.

It’s honestly really hard to imagine this gentle, kind boy becoming a villain. Yeah, he does get angry, and there is a moment where you think he’s going to eliminate Ozai, but he’s not evil. But some fans have decided to take a crack at it. Aang makes a pretty creepy Hollow (which is a nice Bleach reference). I would hate to fight this guy.

17 Do Not Mess With Evil Danny

Via: tuxedaaron.deviantart.com, bloodfire09.deviantart.com

The story behind Danny Phantom is pretty dark in general. Danny became half ghost due to a lab accident. Essentially, he’s half deceased already, which is pretty grim if you think about it. But despite his macabre origins, Danny is and always will be a hero. But what if he wasn’t?

Let’s hope he never actually goes rogue on us.

If we want to get technical, there is a villain version of Danny Phantom that actually happened in the series. (One of those crazy alternate future situations; it was a pretty dark episode). And Dan Phantom is ruthless and pretty terrifying; after all, he did manage to take over Amity Park and rule it with an iron fist. Fans have also imagined what Danny would be like if he was a bit more monstrous, and the results are pretty freaky. Let’s hope he never actually goes rogue on us.

16 Mad Jack Will Mess You Up

Via: sharky-chan.deviantart.com, george-george.deviantart.com

Admittedly, Jack is a slightly strange name for a samurai, but considering he was hurled into the future, and ended up naming himself, it could’ve been worse. What I love about this series is that it wasn’t afraid to get intense, and it knew how to tell amazing stories with little to no dialogue.

There actually was an evil version of Jack, known as Mad Jack. He was the embodiment of Jack’s inner darkness, and was given a physical form by Aku. He proves to be a pretty formidable foe, and he shows what Jack would be like if he gave in to his inner demons both figuratively and literally. Evil Jack is seriously freaky, especially since we know what this samurai is capable of. He’s gone up against some powerful foes, so if he were to go dark side, that would not be good for the world.

15 Poor Dib Has Finally Snapped

Via: masks-san.deviantart.com, pinterest.com (Dazzy the Normling)

I don’t know if we would necessarily call Dib a good guy, but he is trying to stop Zim from taking over Earth, so we’ll count it. Dib is that classic character that knows what’s really going on, but no one will believe him. His relationship with Zim ranges from mortal enemies to reluctant allies. Usually, they’re somewhere in between.

Evil Dib is somehow more creepy than evil Zim.

So, what if Dib was the evil one? I could see Dib just snapping one day. Maybe he’d get fed up with the people on earth and decides to join Zim on conquering it. It wouldn’t be that far-fetched; Dib has been shown to be a bit unstable. Give him the right push, and I could see him having some sort of breakdown. Plus, evil Dib is somehow more creepy than evil Zim. I’m not sure why.

14 These Two Would Make The Best Criminal Duo

Via: kprs4ever.deviantart.com, hotrod2001.deviantart.com

Remember that episode of Kim Possible where Ron became evil after a mishap with a device that changes your attitude/will? And then Ron almost took over the world because he ended up being a better supervillain than Drakken ever was? That episode was pretty popular among fans. The idea of an evil Ron was a strange, but pretty compelling one.

What would it be like if our dynamic duo heroes were actually villains? The world wouldn’t be ready for them. Considering Kim’s skills, she could do a lot of damage if she went evil. And Ron’s creativity could be used for some pretty disturbing stuff. It’s probably a good thing these two aren’t evil; I don’t think the world would be able to handle it. But they do make a cute evil couple.

13 Looks Like Xana Got The Best Of Her

Via: theflamedemon23.deviantart.com

Code Lyoko was a surprisingly good show, blending the virtual world with the real world and having these ordinary teenagers become heroes by fighting a malicious AI called Xana. And in the center of it was Aelita. Aelita was supposedly one of the AIs in Lyoko, and it was often up to her to stop Xana’s attacks on the real world. She’s sweet and kind, but she’s also very brave.

If Aelita went rogue, Lyoko and Earth wouldn’t stand a chance.

What would Aelita be like if she weren’t as nice? Actually, the idea of Aelita getting taken over by the evil Xana computer AI is a pretty interesting one and is plausible. And an evil Aelita is pretty terrifying, especially since she has the power to change up the virtual world (and the real world as a result) drastically. If she went rogue, Lyoko and Earth wouldn’t stand a chance.

12 Save Me If I Become My Demons

Via: marganagod.deviantart.com, kamobee.deviantart.com

Raven is probably one of my favorite characters from Teen Titans, partially because she’s such a bookworm, and partially because she’s quite the interesting character. She’s not much of a people person, and she finds her teammates to be kind of annoying, but she still has a good heart and cares for them deeply.

Considering Raven’s origins, it’s actually kind of surprising she didn’t turn evil (though I think it happened briefly in the comics). She’s the daughter of an actual demon who was bent on taking over the world. She was essentially created to be used as a tool. And if she had embraced her demonic origins and followed more in her father’s footsteps, she would be absolutely terrifying. Raven has a lot of power. In fact, most of the time, she’s holding back when she fights. An evil Raven would probably doom the world.

11 Power Corrupts In Ways You Can’t Imagine

Via: drangedblackkitten.deviantart.com

In Ben 10: Alien Force, Ben, Gwen, and Kevin, make a pretty solid team, fighting aliens and threats to the Earth. These three are willing to do whatever it takes to protect both humans and aliens from various threats. And with their crazy abilities, they do a pretty good job. But what if they weren’t that heroic?

It wouldn’t take much for these guys to fall victim to some sinister influences.

The idea of the main characters being taken over by their powers isn’t a super far-fetched one. All of their abilities can be a bit unpredictable. The Omnitrix tends to have a mind of its own, Gwen’s alien abilities nearly overpowered her once, and let’s face it, Kevin’s always been a bit unstable. It wouldn’t take much for these guys to fall victim to some sinister influences. But let’s hope it never comes to that.

10 These Step Brothers Would Make The Best Supervillains

Via: sianalaurie.deviantart.com, kiki-kit.deviantart.com

I don’t think we really understand just how crazy smart Phineas and Ferb actually are. They break several laws of physics every day with their inventions, and that’s just them having fun. They make the perfect team with Phineas’ endless creativity combined with Ferb’s engineering skills and technical know-how. These two really are unstoppable.

Which is why it would be so bad if the stepbrothers decided to create some less innocent devices. Phineas could totally do the whole mad scientist thing. They would be seriously scary as bad guys. Whether it would be as a mad scientist or a dark wizard, evil Phineas and Ferb would be people you definitely wouldn’t want to make angry. It’s a good thing they just want to have fun, and aren’t fixated on world domination.

9 She Would Be A Powerful Sith

Via: artstation.com (Juan Carlos Medina), pinterest.com (Evan Williams)

I don’t think I’ve seen a character go from hated to beloved as drastically as Ahsoka was throughout the course of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. (Though to be fair, she was pretty annoying in the beginning). Ahsoka Tano, Anakin’s Padawan, quickly become one of the most beloved characters in the Star Wars animated universe. And for a good reason. She’s strong, she’s snarky, and she did something you don’t see many Jedi do: she walked away from the Jedi Order.

She’s a perfect blend of beautiful and intimidating.

So, what if Ahsoka turned to the Dark Side and became a Sith? It would be so bad. She would be seriously scary as a Sith. I do love these designs of her, though. She’s a perfect blend of beautiful and intimidating.

8 You Don’t Want To Mess With These Boys

Via: benmitchell90.deviantart.com, eramthgin-1027501.deviantart.com

Ed, Edd, and Eddy are certainly an odd group of friends. They’re all very different, but they still hang out and stick together. Considering none of them have the best home life, they tend to rely on each other a lot. And they’re always doing crazy schemes, courtesy of Eddy’s creative ideas. It makes me wonder what these guys would be like if they turned their sights on some more. . . illegal activities.

I could actually see these guys forming their own little gang. Eddy would be the mastermind con artist, Edd would help with the logistics of Eddy’s schemes, and Ed would be the muscle, should things go south. These three would be pretty intimidating. You definitely wouldn’t want to make them angry. Let’s just hope they have better luck than they did as kids.

7 The Darkness In Him Is Strong

Via: teentitans.deviantart.com, beastgreen.deviantart.com

It’s hard to imagine Beast Boy as anything other than the cheerful, hyperactive little shapeshifter that he is. In Teen Titans, Beast Boy was the show’s main source of comedy, usually making us laugh with his crazy antics and pranks. But there were a couple of episodes that showed his darker side.

We’ve seen Beast Boy’s dark side.

Evil Beast Boy would be pretty unsettling. But there could be some basis for it. This kid has gone through a lot, losing his parents, becoming estranged from his adopted family, and having to deal with villains at a seriously young age. It’s kind of a miracle this kid isn’t as messed up as he probably should be. That being said, I could see him breaking under the pressure. We’ve seen Beast Boy’s dark side, and while he controls it, it could come out again.

6 I Didn’t Think This Show Could Get Any Creepier

Via: arwenmzsabas.deviantart.com

Does anybody actually know what the deal was with The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack? That show was beyond weird, and frankly kind of disturbing. There was so much imagery that never should have made it onto a kids’ show. But surprisingly, Flapjack himself is this pretty nice kid, if a little naïve and completely oblivious to danger.

So how would Flapjack be as an evil kid? My guess he’d either be one of those manic villains that just revels in the chaos and has a blast, or he’d be that kid that does horrible things because he doesn’t understand how people hurt and he finds it interesting. Either way, it would be very interesting to see this happy-go-lucky kid become a bit darker. But let’s hope that doesn’t happen. The show was creepy enough as it was.

5 Timmy Has Had Enough

Via: thayinsanity.tumblr.com, zeldaprincessgirl100.deviantart.com

If you think about it, Timmy’s situation is kind of depressing. His home life isn’t very good, with his neglectful parents and babysitter. He’s not that popular at school, and he has a teacher that’s a little too interested in him. This kid definitely has problems.

I’m kind of surprised he didn’t go evil sooner.

But did you know that there was an evil version of Timmy in Fairly Odd Parents? He was known as Nega-Timmy, and he looked like a cross between a vampire and an evil fairy. Nega-Timmy comes about in a wish gone wrong, when Timmy wishes that he could do the opposite of what his parents tell him to do. That’s great until his dad tells him to be good. And Nega-Timmy is born. Considering Timmy’s situation, I’m kind of surprised he didn’t go evil sooner.

4 Can You Imagine This Snarky Guy As A Sith?

Via: 68.media.tumblr.com, dis4daria.tumblr.com

Now, if anybody had a fairly good reason to give in to the Dark Side, it would be Obi-Wan. This guy has gone through so much and has lost practically everything. He lost his master, his love, his friend and brother, and his people. This guy has lived through a myriad of destruction and had to fight the man he considered his brother. And throughout all of this, he has stayed in the light. That’s impressive.

A dark Obi-Wan would be incredibly fascinating, and pretty scary. He’d probably be even snarkier and more sarcastic. He’s also be motivated by revenge probably. It would’ve been interesting if he had turned before Anakin did, and Anakin would’ve had to fight him. That alone probably would’ve broken Anakin. Well, I guess we’ll never know.

3 This Guy’s More Dangerous Than You Think

Via: ninevsnine.deviantart.com

While Jake Long could be incredibly cocky and a bit annoying with his swaggering personality, he does have a good heart. He was definitely dedicated to protecting the magical creatures in America, and he was willing to make some pretty tough choices.

I’m just sure his friends were glad he was on their side.

I’m slightly cheating with this fanart, since it doesn’t explicitly say Jake is evil in these pieces, but they definitely make him look intimidating and sinister. This is how I’d imagine Jake if he were a little darker. We can’t deny that Jake was an incredibly powerful dragon, and he could do a lot of damage. And when he got angry, well, I’m just sure his friends were glad he was on their side. Let’s hope Jake doesn’t decide to join up with the dark forces anytime soon.

2 Talk About Totally Dramatic Villains

Via: thunderfists1988.deviantart.com

The Total Drama series managed to both make fun of reality shows and still get us invested in them and the characters. If you think about it, there were a ridiculous amount of characters in this series, and all of them managed to be pretty unique and interesting.

So how would some of them be as villains? Considering some of them were pretty villainous, I don’t see this as much of a stretch. I do like that these guys are dressed up as various Batman villains. (Everyone knows his villains are the best). While I can’t see Duncan as the Joker (he’s not really manic enough, though he does look pretty cool), I do like Courtney as Harley Quinn. It would be interesting to see more of these guys as various famous supervillains.

1 The Dark Knight Just Got Darker

Via: pinterest.com (Gareth Malsbury), crishark.deviantart.com

Unlike Superman, it’s not super difficult to imagine Batman in a villain role. This is partially because Batman is a pretty dark character. While he does help people, he’s also in the role of terrifying criminals. And really, all it would take is for him to cross a few lines and he would become a villain pretty easily, and I think he’s fully aware of this.

How do you make an already dark guy even darker? You make him a monster.

I really do like these interpretations of him because they make him a lot less human. Batman has always valued his humanity, so if that was taken away from him, I could see him snapping. There have even been versions of Batman where he wasn’t human. It makes sense though; how do you make an already dark guy even darker? You make him a monster.
