Kayleigh's the first person you'll meet in Cassette Beasts. Truly, the first. Well, unless you count your own character. But you're... kind of... your own character, so are you really meeting yourself? In any case, Kayleigh is not only the friendly face who welcomes you to the strange island of New Wirral, she's also one of Cassette Beasts' numerous romance options.

Romance in this game isn't as complex as, say, your Dragon Ages and your Personas. But that doesn't mean it's unsatisfying, and it's just as helpful to know how to get started. If the cheerful, dog-loving lass strikes your protagonist's fancy, here's what to do.

Bring Kayleigh Along Often

Cassette Beasts Kayleigh

The first thing you'll want to do is ensure Kayleigh's in your party on a regular basis. In the beginning, this is easy as pie, seeing as she's the only companion you'll have encountered. As you meet more folks who will join your team, just don't forget to take Kayleigh on outings sometimes.

There are no time limits of any sort in Cassette Beasts, so you don't need to worry about time management in an in-depth way. Just consider how many hours you're willing to commit to the game on the whole; bringing Kayleigh with you even for just a handful of hours is plenty. That's because the goal is to get Kayleigh to open up about herself at campfires and the Gramophone cafe (basically, anyplace you can rest).

It takes a while between conversations with Kayleigh, so you'll sometimes rest and receive 'stock' messages of sorts, about how 'you and Kayleigh discuss such-and-such', without an actual written conversation. Just explore and battle alongside her some more until she's talkative again.

Cassette Beasts Kayleigh Quest

It won't take long before Kayleigh's personal quest, 'I Ran So Far Away', is presented to you. To get it rolling, simply explore Autumn Hill or New Wirral Park with Kayleigh, and you'll bump into some rough fellows whom Kayleigh regretfully recognizes. Curious.

Rest again, and Kayleigh will talk more about what all that was about. We don't want to spoil things, but the gal's had a tough life. Now, you'll need to find Mourningtown in Autumn Hill. Head inside the starnge place, battling the cultists as you solve the puzzle to traverse the fort, and you'll eventually come face-to-face with another Archangel. In other words, you would have needed to do this quest at some point anyway, for the main story!

Raise Those Stars!

You will have already gained the first of five relationship stars with Kayleigh near the beginning of the game, since the character is so deeply imbued into early happenings. But you won't be able to get the second through fifth until after you've finished 'I Ran So Far Away'. The good news is, the second through fifth relationship stars rank up swiftly.

You won't get a new conversation/star every time you rest, and if you try to rest repeatedly without exploring together a bit, you might be underwhelmed by your results. But take things naturally, and heal up alongside Kayleigh. A good practice routine is to always remember to do that before swapping her with somebody else at the Gramophone cafe, since the empty table's right there and all.

At five stars, you'll have conversation opportunities to affirm your feelings, which can be avoided whilst maintaining a highly-valued friendship if your goal isn't to romance Kayleigh. If it is, however, be diligent of course and say you're interested. Your reward will be a full-fledged date cutscene and some reaffirming romantic dialogue throughout the remainder of your adventure.
