Ah, yes. We all knew it was coming, but finally we’ve got a release date locked in: Castle Crashers is coming to Nintendo Switch on September 17.

Whichever way you slice it, the Switch is sitting pretty at the moment. It had its naysayers and doubters, and it certainly still has its persistent issues (Nintendo Switch Online is going to have more than just NES games to offer one day, we promise), but the system’s been a barnstorming success by all accounts.

This is partly due to the great first-party titles, which have always been the company’s strong suit (Fire Emblem: Three Houses was the latest smash-hit), but you need more than that. You need third-party support and top-notch indie devs on board. Just ask the Wii U, which flopped like something very floppy indeed because nobody would touch it with a barge pole.

The Switch has been a treasure trove of riches in comparison. Early on, it was blessed with big titles like Doom and Skyrim, which, while hardly cutting edge, represented quite a third-party commitment. That sentiment has continued to gather steam, and now, The Witcher 3 is on its way to the plucky little handheld hybrid that could. Not only that, but it’s become a haven for the biggest indie titles, like Hollow Knight and Cuphead.

The next huge indie deal is none other than The Behemoth’s Castle Crashers, which we’ve known was incoming for months now. As the team stated in a blog post, they have been questioned about the remaster of the beloved brawler for a long time, and can now proudly confirm that it has a release date on Nintendo Switch at last:

“After months of responding to questions and posts and tweets of “When is Castle Crashers coming?” with “Later this summer!” and “Soon™” too many times to count, today we are finally ready to share more information with you. Castle Crashers Remastered will launch on the Nintendo Switch on September 17, 2019, with the PlayStation 4 version of the game planned to follow shortly after.”

Elsewhere in the detailed blog post, The Behemoth reveal that the game will be priced at $14.99 when it hits the eShop and will be compatible with Switch Online and HD Rumble, as well as offering “up to 4-player local Joy-Con support so you can use your Joy-Cons in any configuration to play with friends online, offline, on the big screen, or in the palm of your hand.”

So, there we have it. We can stop asking and start counting down the days until we can enjoy some of that madcap Medieval action on the go.
