It's unclear what's next for MercurySteam after Castlevania: Lords of Shadow and Metroid: Samus Return, but publisher 505 Games has announced that it signed a deal with the studio for an upcoming title.

It's reportedly a "brand new" game for "PC and consoles" but that's the extent of what was announced in Digital Bros' quarterly earnings report.

In response, MercurySteam shared a blog post in which it simply stated, "A few words from us: it will be amazing!"

The studio got its start in 2004 with American McGee presents: Scrapland before moving onto the simply titled 'Zombies' two years later. That was a mobile game for Nokia. Only the next year, it released Clive Barker's Jericho before taking a three-year hiatus, returning with Castlevania: Lords of Shadow.

However, its latest game released in 2017, and it was called Spacelords. It's a free-to-play action-adventure shooter and brawler available on console and PC. The reel is that its a 4v1 campaign where you can play as the Raiders or the Antagonist, fighting alongside the invading enemies.

"Brand new" seems to indicate that it won't be a return to any of these prior titles but rather something else entirely, although whether "brand new" entails the IP itself as well or if MercurySteam is being handed an existing one is unclear.

Whether this new venture will mean stopping the support for Spacelords is unknown, but for now, MercurySteam and 505 Games have signed a partnership and something is underway.
