CD Projekt recently told investors during its latest earnings call that more transmedia projects are currently being planned following the success of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. This crossover content was released back in September before going on to become a stunning success on the streaming platform Netflix.

“We are not confirming any specific plans for a second season of Edgerunners or anything super specifically,” Senior Vice President of Business Development at CD Projekt Michał Nowakowski said in a statement. The executive however added that “we have an appetite to do more in transmedia, so in linear visual animation or live action and those plans have not changed, so when we are ready, you may expect to see more announcements in that regard coming from us.”

The company has been showing strong financial results throughout the quarter, mostly driven by dramatically increased sales of Cyberpunk 2077. The connection to the recently released patch and the resounding success of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners remains hard to miss, at least for many industry insiders. According to Chief Financial Officer at CD Projekt Piotr Nielubowicz, the “popularity of the anime series along with the positive reception of the update visibly affected unit sales of Cyberpunk 2077.”

Country Manager for Japan at CD Projekt Satoru Honma recently explained how the company had no plans to continue developing the story in Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, the product of a collaboration between CD Projekt and Studio Trigger. “I personally would like to continue to work with Japanese studios to produce more anime in the future, partly because we have received very good feedback,” Honma remarked.

The executive however added that “just to be clear, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was planned as a standalone work, so there’s no such thing as we are actually working on Season 2 in the background.” Honma went on to say that “even if we could make more anime in the future, I don’t know if it would be Season 2 or something completely different.”
