Ah man, Dragon Ball. What can I say about this long-running franchise that hasn't been said already? Dragon Ball is one of those franchises that everyone just knows about, y'know? Like Pokémon or One Piece, it's just that much of a cultural phenomenon.

Our hero, Son Goku, has gone through many many battles and tournaments (that he's, uh, usually the cause of) with his loving family eternally by his side. After going on for so many years, Dragon Ball has acquired a respectable number in its cast of characters that people have been watching and reading about for decades at this point.

That being said, behind every strong man is an even stronger woman. Aside from a few mishaps where would our favorite fighter be without his wife, Chi-Chi? Adorable name aside, Chi-Chi is the feisty mother of two half-Saiyan children and does her best to keep her husband and sons out of trouble. Whether or not that works is up for debate, though...

Being the friend and eventual wife of such a hot-blooded Saiyan has lead to many great moments and facts over the years. Chi-Chi is honestly one of my favorite characters in Dragon Ball, just because of how devoted she is to her family and the other characters of the cast. It's nice to watch the difference from her kid self in the original Dragon Ball to her fiery attitude in Dragon Ball Z.

Long story short, here's 25 facts about anime's favorite mom, Chi-Chi.

25 Chi-Chi Is The One Goku Is The Most Intimidated By

Via: youtube.com

I always really enjoyed the joke that "the one thing a Saiyan fears his wife." Saiyans are hardwired to be attracted to strong women, right?

So it makes sense Chi-Chi could beat his behind without a second thought!

Fighting Broly or participating in the Tournament of Power looks pretty good in retrospect, wouldn't you say? On that note, it shows with Bulma, Videl, and even Gine as well. The strongest ladies on the show are married to Saiyans! Gotta say, I always enjoyed the shenanigans.

24 She Gains A Kaio-Ken-Like Aura When Angry

Via: stackexchange.com

Haha, now it's moments like this why I love Dragon Ball. While everyone and their mother is capable of world-ending feats on the daily, we can still expect Chi-Chi to use "kaio-ken" when she's angry.

Since the topic of training is at the forefront of the series, I wonder how strong Chi-Chi and the other human characters could get if they simply trained for a long bit of time. Not on the level of Goku or Vegeta, but you get my point. Chi-Chi vs Jiren is a fight that I'd pay to see!

23 She Thinks Of The Super Saiyans As "Delinquents"

Via: comicbook.com

This is another detail that I really love. Super Saiyans are easily one of the coolest things about the show. The bursting aura, the blonde hair, the colors of the rainbow that Goku has become by this point... While I'm still holding out for Greenku, I doubt Chi-Chi would approve.

In Japan, it is seen as a rebellious act to dye your hair blonde.

We know how much Chi-Chi values family so when her only sons begin fighting and "dyeing" their hair blonde it could only be seen as a recipe for disaster in her eyes.

22 Her Name Means... "Number One" In Portuguese

Via: youtube.com (redmario73)

...I'm sure we've all just grown a little more after learning about that, I'm sure. With how much Toriyama loves name-based puns and relationships, I'm surprised he never caught this one. Then again, checking every major language for name's meaning is dumb in retrospect. What her name means in Japanese is much better anyway.

Of course, her name was changed to Kika in Portuguese.

We don't want a character associated with a bodily function since other characters have veggies named after them.

21 Her Name Means Milk In Japanese

Via: twitter.com (DailyDragonBall)

Yep, Chi-Chi's name means milk in Japanese rather than anything gross. I like to think it's a reference to how to how shy and then eventually she is throughout the series.

Incidentally, Goku's Saiyan name, Kakarot, is meant to mean carrot. So with this knowledge, I propose that Dragon Ball is renamed to The Adventures of Carrot and Milk. Makes you wonder if Vegeta and Bulma have an interesting name combo like their friends seem to!

20 In An Alternate Timeline, She Is Ended By "Goku"

Via: destructoid.com

Eesh, pretty dark right? I can't honestly say I didn't see that coming. While Dragon Ball is generally not too dark of a series, Zamasu took that notion right out of the window.

After stealing Goku's body for himself he straight up offed Chi-Chi in his timeline.

The flashback wasn't graphic by any means, but it was enough to make me feel queasy. The Zamasu arc, in general, is one of my favorites, this moment adding to the many that's already there. Our Goku then gives him a much-needed no-holds-barred beatdown.

19 Her Mother Perished When She Was A Baby

Via: dragonball.wikia.com

Why is it that the best characters have to have the worst backstories? Heck, Goku lost both of his parents before the series started as well.

The cause of her passing was an unspecified illness that took her life shortly after Chi-Chi's birth in the same year. Her wedding dress was the only thing Chi-Chi had to remember her by. At least she had her dad, the Ox-King, kept her safe and gave her a nice childhood that ended up with her having a nice family of four.

18 Her Favorite Vehicle Is A Tractor

Via: rebloggy.com

Well, uh, I would've said a car or truck, but this works too, I guess. If you've seen the show then you know Chi-Chi values hard work above all else. I'm sure that a tractor is the hardest working of the vehicles but calling it your favorite is different. Can't say I've had the same feelings but hey, growing up on a mountain is sure to skew someone's opinion on their favorite vehicle.

But that does lead us to...

17 Her Favorite Hobby Is Farm Work

Via: dragonballinsider.com

It makes sense. With the tractor and all and owning a radish farm as their main source of income. The opening of Dragon Ball Super has a good bit of farming at the beginning too.

I wonder if I could be a good farmer too... Dragon Ball planting the farmer seeds in me early, it seems. While Goku is off fighting everyone it makes sense that she has something to do outside of housekeeping duties.

Aw, a mental image of her and Gohan doing it themselves is sweet.

16 She Has Had Blue Hair

Via: megahobby.com

Surprising, huh? Early installment weirdness is one of my favorite tropes since you can see how a franchise started with its characters and story and see it develop into what we know and love today.

Chi-Chi had blue hair and Bulma had purple hair!

Crazy, isn't it? Something as small as hair color can majorly change a character that we've seen for years. Makes me wonder why the changes happened in the first place too. Maybe Toriyama was simply brainstorming and thought that these designs fit their character more?

15 She Is Most Likely The Strongest Female On Earth

Via: womenwriteaboutcomics.com

Wow, the strongest man on Earth has a woman who is most likely the strongest woman? Color me surprised! Of course, that means human women anyway. I doubt including Saiyans or Androids would be very fair.

But yeah, due to her heritage as the as the daughter of the ox-king it's to be expected.

In addition to being feisty, you gotta expect her to be able to hold her own in a fight. It can't be that hard when she can have kaio-ken levels of rage at times!

14 She Has Fought Both Her Sons

Via: screenrant.com

...Not the best way to bond with your family, but I'm not judging. Chi-Chi has fought Gohan and Goten for two massively different reasons. Gohan because she was infected by a virus and Goten was just for training, thankfully.

I doubt Bulma would want to be able to have this "honor" at all. Especially with what happened with Zamasu, there looks like there's a bit of fighting in Chi-Chi's family. Albeit for justifiable reasons, of course.

13 Her Armor As A Child Resembles Another Toriyama Character

Via: dragonball.wikia.com

If it isn't obvious, Pola on the left is the one whose Chi-Chi's armor is similar to. The short was created a few years before Dragon Ball but it's amazing that the art is still on point. It's astonishing to me that a manga from the 1980s can still look so good.

A bit of a different fact on the list, but it's nice to see where the history of the characters come in too.

Like there was a one-shot manga called Dragon Boy that basically became Dragon Ball in the end.

12 Goku's First Date With Her Was A Fight

Via: youtube.com (DragonBallTime)

It's not Dragon Ball unless we get a fight out of it! It's basically a tradition at this point. Chi-Chi and Goku's relationship is all over the place, but that's why I love it.

The fight occurred because Chi-Chi told Goku to do "the most pleasurable thing that could come to him."

Since we know what their relationship is like, now I think we can safely say it was a successful first date. Maybe playfights are what I need to do then? On second thought, never mind.

11 She Thought Yamcha Had A Thing For Her

Via: youtube.com (RayJones123456789)

Ehh... there's no bigger joke in Dragon Ball than Yamcha, so I doubt this would've ended well. I remember when I first started getting into the show I thought Yamcha was one of the Saiyans, but was proven wrong very very quickly.

I suppose Yamcha is good for playing as him in the fighting games and taking down someone like Beerus or Frieza. Can't say I feel bad when even something like baseball spells disaster for him.

10 She And Goku Have Never Kissed

Via: youtube.com (ChrisBased97)

Goku really isn't a ladies' man, huh? Aside from the occasional peck on the cheek, we never see a kiss from the married couple.

Vegeta may be eternally playing catch-up to Goku most of the time, but at least the man knows how to kiss his wife.

I get that Goku is written to be more of a selfish guy in the manga, but I don't know. One thing that is interesting to me is that the dub inserted a line of him saying I love you to Chi-Chi after he's hurt rather than asking why she's crying.

9 Gohan And Goten Represent Her And Goku's Parenting Styles

Via: comicbook.com

Now that I think about it, this is a pretty interesting topic. As the series goes we do see Gohan and Goten grow older. Both of them had fairly different upbringings Gohan grew up with more of his mother's influence and didn't like to fight, completely opposite to Goku.

On the flip side, Gohan had a bit more of time with Goku and even achieved Super Saiyan long before Goku did himself. Personality-wise he's a mix of Goku and Goten too, due to the mix of parenting. Really interesting, since it makes every member of the family really pop out.

8 Goku Agreed To Marry Chi-Chi Thinking Marriage Was Food

Via: comicbook.com

Don't ask me how; it just happened. Besides the fact that Goku kinda forgot about the marriage proposal too after some time you can understand why Chi-Chi gets so mad at him.

To be fair though, this did happen when he was young, and he's pretty, for lack of a better word, dumb sometimes.

I don't think I'll ever be in the same situation thankfully so I wonder what kind of food marriage is exactly? I'll guess a banana split.

7 She Beat A Group Of Fully-Grown Soldiers As A Child

Via: dragonball.wikia.com

Yep, nothing but short work for the strongest woman on Earth! Even as a child something like soldiers was just child's play to her. Early Dragon Ball was certainly something in everything was so small-scale in comparison to Z and Super.

The days when a young girl or boy with a Power Pole could beat the strongest enemy are gone.

Now we have Mastered Ultra Instinct to take care of everyone and everything. Heck, that's not even enough now when you factor in beings like the Angels.

6 She Is Pure Of Heart

Via: fanpop.com

Now, this is something to think about. The Nimbus Cloud which was Goku's main source of travel back in the original Dragon Ball would only let those pure of heart ride on it.

Not a bad way to have a heartwarming moment. Flying through the sky after a battle is won and enjoying a sunset... Oof, it paints the perfect picture, wouldn't you say? ...Then Goku could ruin it by saying he's hungry or something! Oh well, I really do love these characters.
