Chicory: A Colorful Tale, an indie coloring book adventure game created by Wandersong director Greg Lobanov, came out on the PS4, PS5 and PC in June without any prospects of expanding to other platforms. Today, the game launched on the Nintendo Switch like a rainbow on a sunny day, giving Nintendo gamers a chance to color their world on the go and at home.

Nintendo revealed Chicory: A Colorful Tale in the ending montage of its Indie World Showcase, announcing that it would be available in the Nintendo eShop mere hours after the end of the presentation. It appeared along with other announcements of new indie games coming to the Switch, such as Omori, Sea of Stars, and OlliOlli World.

In Chicory: A Colorful Tale, you play as a puppy named Pizza (or whatever favorite food you choose to name it after), the number-one fan of the titular artist who disappeared and stripped all the land’s colors away in the process. You have to bring all the colors back to Picnic Province using the paintbrush bequeathed to you by Chicory, which is simply named The Brush, as it is the source of all the colors in the world. As you paint the environment around you, The Brush will help you solve various puzzles, customize your outfits, and unlock new painting abilities.

Our very own editor-in-chief Stacey Henley commended Chicory: A Colorful Tale for addressing mental health issues like depression and imposter syndrome in a way that best represents the experiences of its players, especially those who have pursued careers in the arts. The player character deals with imposter syndrome because they just happened to witness the tragedy of the colors fading away and wound up being chosen for a job they were clearly not ready for, while Chicory is depressed with the way her art makes her see life as a competition and every artist that came and went before her as a standard to live up to.

Chicory: A Colorful Tale is available on the Nintendo eShop for $19.99.
