A remaster of the classic JRPG Chrono Cross was announced during Nintendo's recent showcase, and launches on April 7 later this year. While the remaster was announced during the Nintendo Direct, is currently unknown whether this remaster will launch on other platforms as well.

Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamer's Edition isn't just a simple port to Nintendo Switch either, and features a couple of new improvements. These include the ability to switch off enemy encounters, allowing players to simply explore without the hassle of combat, as well as a completely remastered soundtrack to accompany you on your adventure.

As an added bonus, the text-based adventure Radical Dreamers will also be included in the remaster, a story which explains how Chrono Cross and the much-loved Chrono Trigger tie into each other. This marks the first time the text-based adventure becomes easily accessible outside of Japan and is definitely worth checking out if you're a big Chrono Cross fan.

A Chrono Cross remake was rumored to be in the works in November last year, and while today's announcement isn't a remake, it's definitely an excuse to jump back into a JRPG classic or simply play the game for the first time if you haven't already.

Explained by the game's trailer, you play as Serge who accidentally wanders into an alternate world. Traveling between your own world and this mysterious new world, you'll be joined by a group of 40 different characters in order to unravel the mystery behind the recently discovered parallel dimension.

Chrono Cross was certainly a highlight of the Direct, but wasn't the only exciting announcement Nintendo had for us. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will be getting a bunch of remastered tracks from across the rest of the Mario Kart series, a sequel to Wii Sports was announced and includes several new sports including soccer and volleyball, and Nintendo also announced that both EarthBound and EarthBound Beginnings will be headed to the Nintendo Switch Online service later today.
