Zombies will return in Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII with Blood of the Dead and a special Mystery Box Edition.

What’s in the box?! Why, it’s a brand new episode of the famous Call of Duty: Zombies storyline. We already knew that CoD would continue the wildly popular game mode in the fourth installment of the Black Ops franchise (which is actually the 15th installment of the Call of Duty franchise as a whole) but now we have more details as to what’s actually going on.

Blood of the Dead will not take place following the events of Black Ops 3: Zombies, and instead take place in the past. An old foe will try and lure the original Zombies heroes to Alcatraz and trap them there (yeah, trapping someone in a prison is pretty on the nose). "Tank" Dempsey, Nikolai Belinski, Takeo Masaki, and Edward Richtofen will have to find some way to escape and save their timeline in order to save the world, which they did in the future in the previous game.

Man, messed up timelines are messed up.

The latest Zombies CoD will launch with the game and include three episodes: IX, Voyage of Despair, and Blood of the Dead, and will come with a brand new cast of characters to include with the previous game’s cast of characters.

In keeping with the whole Zombies theme, a special edition Mystery Box will also be available for those who have more love for zombies than the whole modern sci-fi shoot ‘em up genre.

Most prominently, the Mystery Box comes with a decorative box that lights up and makes creepy zombie sounds when you open it. On the inside comes a special edition copy of the game (obv) as well as a whole bunch of goodies including a Zombies Heroes FiGPiNs (featuring Scarlett Rhodes, Bruno Delacroix, Diego Necalli, and Stanton Shaw), 1,000 piece jigsaw puzzle, Dark Horse Comics Zombies Issue #1, a Zombies-themed Popsocket (which is like a cell phone stand, but weirder), a bunch of multiplayer icons, and the Black Ops Pass which includes four new Zombies chapters (once they’re made of course), 12 multiplayer maps, and four exclusive Battle Royale-mode characters.

There’s also something called “additional unspecified bonus content”, whatever that is.

Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII is set to release worldwide on October 12th.
