Is it that time already? The next character to grace Street Fighter V Arcade Edition has been revealed (or rather, dated, we already knew he was coming). If you’re a fan of Street Fighter, Final Fight or just about anything else with the word fight in the title, you’re going to be glad to make Cody’s acquaintance again.

Cody Travers originates from another Capcom property, the beat-em-up franchise Final Fight. The first title, which arrived back in 1989, introduces us to him in his typical ‘rescuing the damsel in distress from the bad guys’ role. Sure, there are certain wrinkles to that concept in the plot (his girlfriend, Jessica, is the daughter of the town’s ex-pro wrestler mayor, which isn’t something you see every day), but that’s the long and short of it.

Cody made his first Street Fighter appearance in 1998’s Street Fighter Alpha 3. He’s a little down on his luck in this appearance, having broken up with Jessica and become a vigilante. Imprisoned for his violent ways, he became the brutal convict of a brawler fans will remember from Super Street Fighter IV.

Cody makes his return in Street Fighter V Arcade Edition on June 26, but he’s sure cleaned up his act this time around.

Now the mayor of Metro City, the blond brawler comes sporting a classy new look, complete with a suit and tie far removed from his Fresh Outta Prison getup from the last Street Fighter. The latter is still an available option, though, in the form of the Nostalgia Costume. As well as that, there’s the Final Fight Costume, which fans of that franchise will be instantly familiar with.

Which is all well and good, but it’s not all about the fashion. We want to know what he looks like, sure (previous DLC character, series stalwart Blanka, came with one of the greatest alternate costumes in fighting game history), but how he plays in the biggest thing.

In that regard, he’s changed little from the Cody that returning players will remember. As you can tell from his spangly new gameplay trailer, he still takes a brutal, knife-centric approach to bouts. His moveset is very familiar, although it’s clear that he’s tried to refine his fighting style a bit.

Take a look at Cody in action, and see if you fancy jumping back in with him when drops this time next month.
