Counter-Strike star Marcelo “coldzera” David has officially joined FaZe Clan’s CS:GO side. This move comes just a few months after coldzera benched himself from former team MIBR. The new lineup will debut at ESL One New York this weekend.

Marcelo “coldzera” David is a veteran CS:GO star, originally making a name for himself under the Luminosity banner. As they made consistent top placings at big events, coldzera quickly became known as the best CS:GO player in the world throughout 2016 and 2017. His mechanical skill and intelligent gameplay helped his team win both the MLG Columbus and ESL One Cologne Majors in 2016. Coldzera was named as the MVP of both tournaments, becoming the first player to be awarded two Major MVPs. The now-MIBR squad hasn't shown that same blinding form in 2019, with their best placings being semi-final finishes at the IEM Katowice Major and IEM Sydney. That core has stuck together for years, though coldzera made the decision to bench himself from the roster in July due to poor results. The Brazilian star has been teamless since, missing out on the StarLadder Berlin Major. This was his first absence from a Major since ESL One Katowice 2015. Many rumors flew around about where coldzera would play next, with FaZe Clan often placed at the top of that list.

FaZe Clan’s own results have been lacking in recent months as they have struggled to find a stable roster. A number of players have been cycled into the team, though they have not found any consistent success. After their group stage exit from the Berlin Major, FaZe decided to remove in-game leader Filip “NEO” Kubski and AWPer Ladislav “GuardiaN” Kovács. Those vacancies have now been filled by young up-and-comer Helvijs “broky” Saukants and coldzera himself. FaZe star Nikola “NiKo” Kovač and coldzera have expressed their desire to play alongside each other in the past. The two have mostly played as rivals, with FaZe and then-SK Gaming often meeting in Grand Final matches in 2017.

The updated FaZe roster will debut at ESL One New York this weekend. Their opening match will see them take on the ex-NRG roster, now playing under the Evil Geniuses name.
