Feral Interactive has announced that its long-awaited iPad port of Relic's 2006 RTS Company of Heroes will be releasing next month. Currently scheduled for a February 13 release, the game was initially pegged for a 2019 date before getting delayed indefinitely. Whatever setbacks stopped the title from coming out last year, everything has been fixed. You won't have much longer to wait for this.

With Apple devices not having expandable storage, it's important to note the install size of this game. Feral claims it will take 6 GB of space, though it recommends having 8 GB available while installing. No paid DLC will be available for this port, but additional missions will be ready for download. This was likely done to keep the initial file size down.

As for what devices can run it, Feral has provided a complete list. All of the listed devices will require iOS 13.1 installed to run. Company of Heroes won't work on iPhone, so keep that in mind if you aren't using a tablet.

  • iPad mini (5th generation)
  • iPad Air (3rd generation)
  • iPad (5th generation)
  • iPad (6th generation)
  • iPad (7th generation)
  • iPad Pro (1st generation: 9.7", 12.9")
  • iPad Pro (2nd generation: 10.5", 12.9")
  • iPad Pro (3rd generation: 11", 12.9")

Pre-orders for Company of Heroes are currently live on the App store. The title is a premium game, so it will set you back $13.99. There's no mention of cross-play with the PC original, but Feral insists there are no in-app purchases or microtransactions to be found. That makes sense for a port of a now 14-year-old strategy game.

When Company of Heroes originally hit the scene in 2006, it was a dramatic shift away from traditional RTS games. While many at the time were still focused on base building and accumulating units, Company of Heroes chose to forgo those elements and emphasize a more action-packed approach. It was immensely successful and arguably changed the tide of strategy games for the next decade.

A successful sequel later and Company of Heroes seems to have run its course. The original is still a solid game, but Relic is seemingly done with working on the series. It's unlikely this iPad version will spur a future sequel, but we could end up seeing Company of Heroes 2 make the leap to mobile platforms.
