If you bought a PSVR any time in the past four years, and you're planning on getting your hands on a Playstation 5, then you're in luck! The VR headset will be fully compatible with the new console!

But it won't work on its own. To get many PSVR games to work, you need to use the Playstation Camera. Unfortunately, the Playstation Camera... can't actually plug into the PS5.

Normally, this would mean gamers would have to fork out some money for an expensive adapter, all but ensuring that the old tech will fade away into obscurity. However, Sony seems determined to not let that happen and is actually giving away free adapters that will allow the Playstation Camera to work on the next-generation console.

The link to the adapter was shared on Twitter by Sony's own Shuhei Yoshida.

To qualify for a new adapter, gamers have to own a PSVR headset, with a limit of one adapter per household. To receive it, you need to provide Sony with your first name, last name, email address, shipping address, and phone number.

Players will also have to have your PSVR processor unit serial number at the ready. Sony created a handy graphic to illustrate where exactly that can be found.

The adapter will plug into the USB Type-A port of the PS5 console– a port that the Playstation Camera can't plug into on its own.

There's no word on how long the Playstation Camera adapter will be available for free, so if you even have the slightest urge to use your PSVR unit on your brand new PlayStation 5, you should probably order an adapter now.
