A story trailer for upcoming action-horror game ControlA story trailer for upcoming action-horror game Control released yesterday and delivered some truly unsettling and nightmarish imagery. While touching on some broad story elements of the game, the trailer can be better described as a cinematic mood board for the game. If weird fiction is your jam, there's a lot to look forward to in Control.

From the developers of Alan Wake, Remedy Entertainment began development on this creepy horror-scifi before the release of their last game, Quantum Break, over 3 years ago. Control was revealed at E3 2018 during Sony's annual press conference. Our first look at the game showed a woman with telekinetic powers and a strange morphing gun in a physics-defying government facility. With this new trailer, we now know more about what to expect come August 27th.

In the trailer, a man tells the protagonist of Control, Jesse Faden, of a dream he had about an entity known as "The Hiss". The Hiss broke free of its prison, and while many were scared, many other welcomed The Hiss in. As we know, this isn't just a dream, but the setup for the plot of the game.

Jesse Faden arrives at the Federal Bureau of Control, a secret branch of the government designed to protect us from the strange and horrifying, looking for her brother. The facility, known as The Oldest House, kept The Hiss safe from the world. It escaped, killing the director of the F.B.C and threatening all of reality. Upon arrival, Jesse is "selected" by the service weapon, that strange morphing gun from the first trailer, and tasked with containing The Hiss before it's too late.

While the man tells Jesse about his dream, we're briefly introduced to a number of characters in the game (all voiced by Remedy Entertainment alums, including the voice of Max Payne and Alan Wake). We also take a tour of The Oldest House where someone or something has left dead bodies all around floating in the air. Corpses, hideous monsters, and reality-bending architecture pepper the rest of the trailer. It's really a sight to see and one that inspires a lot of hope for the new game.

Control releases August 27th on PS4, Xbox One, and Epic Game Store. If you're looking for some weird fiction to hold you off until then, Jeff VanderMeer's Southern Reach trilogy is as thrilling as it is horrifying.
