Core doesn’t just want to make publishing games easy--it wants to make creating games as easy as creating websites.

Let's say you want to build a website but you have no idea how to code. No problem! There are places like Squarespace, Wix, or Wordpress that can get you set up with a website in no time. In minutes, you can go from no website to fully-functional and online with whatever content you want.

That's what Core wants to do to gaming. They want people who want to make games but have no idea how to come to Core and build a game in minutes. The idea is to be "radically accessible" in a way that no other game-making platform has ever been on PC (like Dreams is for PlayStation).

Core is made by Manticore, a new studio filled with folks that used to work for some pretty big names, like Electronic Arts, Blizzard, Respawn, Xfire, Roblox, Trion Worlds, Crystal Dynamics, and Zynga. These guys definitely know what they're doing, and what they're doing could change the way that the world makes games.

At the heart of Core is the Unreal 4 Engine, the same one that runs Fortnite and countless other modern games. Unreal already comes with some pretty user-friendly development tools, but takes it to the next level, making game design as easy as pointing and clicking.

And because they share the same engine, a lot of games you see made in Core basically look the same as Fortnite.

But besides simply making game creation easier, Core also lets you publish games at the click of a button. Once your game is done, it becomes freely available for anyone to play or for anyone to remix and turn into their own game. It's this wild west of creationism that gets a lot of people very excited to see what comes next.

Core opens its doors today with a free open alpha. After that, we have no idea how Core is going to be available but expect Manticore to make an announcement sometime in the coming months.
