Coromon, released in March 2022 for the Nintendo Switch and Steam, is a fresh entry into the monster taming genre of video games which has been so utterly monopolized for the last two decades. TRAGsoft's game touts itself as, though not explicitly by name, Pokemon for players wanting a deeper challenge, with a complex battling system, invigorating boss battles, and multiple save slots.

But we're all here for the 'mons, aren't we? With over 120 original creatures to catch, there's plenty to sift through. Fortunately, we've already done that part so that you don't have to, and we've collated our favorites to share. Here are a few of the best Coromon to be found.

The only discernable metric that we've used is aesthetic, and the order is based on where they appear in Coromon's database, and even that is up in the air, as the available Coromon information is… limited.

16 Cubzero

Your Polar Bear Pal

Entry number one in the Coromon database is Cubzero, an Ice Type Coromon which is one of the three starter options at the beginning of the game. Despite being a starter, it can be found in the wild, although it's incredibly rare.

Just look at it. Cubzero is a wobbly, little, baby bear wearing a snowball! Its Potent Form is a gorgeous, icy blue, and its Perfect Form looks like a sentient cherry snowcone. Its evolutions, Aroara and Bearealis, are also a lot of fun.

15 Toruga/Embaval/Volcadon

Heroes In A Hot Shell

Entries four through six are Toruga, Embaval, and Volcadon respectively. These fiery tortoises have a clean design and each evolution follows on naturally from the previous form, something many monster tamers evolutions fail to do.

The final form, Volcadon, looks both menacing and sturdy. Don't be fooled though, it can fire jets of flame for bursts of speed you wouldn't expect from a volcanic turtle monster.

14 Megalobite

Shark Attack

Entry number nine in the Coromon database is Megalobite, a Water Type Coromon. It's the third (and fully evolved) stage of Nibble, one of the three starter options at the beginning of the game.

Megalobite is a tanky, bipedal shark with hammerhead fists and a gold piercing in its dorsal fin, so it is objectively the raddest thing you've seen all day. Honestly, if it were revealed that this Coromon was secretly a character from the Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtles, we wouldn't even bat an eye.

13 Silquill/Gildwing/Golbeak

Design Flying High

Pokemon has long stood by the concept of the 'regional bird', but has never managed to do it as well as Coromon has in its first entry. Numbers 13, 14, and 15 are Silqill, Gildwing, and Golbeak.

They have excellent design, both appealing and menacing like a true bird of prey. Its best form is Perfect, the red and gold colouration conjuring imagery of the mythical phoenix. Has any monster tamer game ever made a 'regional bird' as good as this?

12 Hountrion

Three Goodest Boys In One

Entry number 19 in the Coromon database is Hountrion, an Electric Type Coromon. It's the second (and fully evolved) stage of Houndos. It's considered to be an uncommon find in the wild, though not impossibly rare.

Hountrion is an iteration of the Greek myth Cerberus, complete with the three monstrous heads, each with its own personality, although the electric tail and fluffy blue fur are entirely original. Are we allowed to give its cute noses little pats, or do we run in fear? Depends on the day!

11 Toravolt

Thunder Cat

Entry number 26 in the Coromon database is Toravolt, an Electric Type Coromon. It's the second (and fully evolved) stage of Bittybolt. It's considered to be an uncommon find in the wild, though not impossibly rare.

Toravolt is the classiest tiger we've ever seen. Lightning courses through its stripes in a rumbling wave that's mesmerizing to behold, and the tufts of fur around Toravolt's neck make it feel like a Super Saiyan. Plus, it's probably really good for cuddles.

10 Dugterra

We Dig it

Number 34 in order, but not in our hearts. Dugterra is a long, serpentine mole creature that looks like it's both the stuff of nightmares and the cuddliest friend you never had. It's a great design, and it only gets better in its Perfect form.

If you're lucky enough to nab a Perfect Dugterra, you're treated to one of the best palette swaps in the game. Simplicity is the key here, with Dugterra's fur becoming the washed-out grey you might expect from an underground creature, while the claws become an eye-catching pop of icy blue.

9 Rhynobuz

Shockingly Good

Elemental animals have been a staple of the monster taming genre since the very beginning and Coromon doesn't shy away from that. One of the best examples is Rhynobuz, number 37 in the database, based on a rhinoceros beetle.

The twist is that this beetle is heavily armoured and can generate electricity through the tesla coils protruding from its back. For those who like a sturdy monster on the team that looks like it could take some hits, look no further than Rhynobuz.

8 Eclyptor

Bark At The Moon

Entry number 40 in the Coromon database is Eclyptor, a Ghost Type Coromon. It's the third (and fully evolved) stage of Lunarpup. This Coromon line is considered to be commonly accessible in the wild, but that doesn't take away from its value.

Look, we know this is essentially Absol, all the way down to the luck facet of its design, but we're suckers for edgy little anime monsters, and literally every single dog, ever. We like to think that it can play fetch with that crescent moon slung jauntily across its back.

7 Mudma

Goop Troop

Entry number 58 in the Coromon database is Mudma, a Ghost Type Coromon. It's the second (and fully evolved) stage of Droople. This Coromon line is considered to be commonly accessible in the wild, but that doesn't take away from its value.

Mudma's sludge-like appearance and ominous eyes give us Heartless vibes, even in its Potent and Perfect Forms, but the best thing about this little goop guy is the aggressive try-hard energy its idle animation emits.

6 Grimmask

A Frightful Smile

Entry number 62 in the Coromon database is Grimmask, a Ghost Type Coromon. It’s the second (and fully evolved) stage of Seraphace. It's considered to be an uncommon find in the wild, though not impossibly rare.

Grimmask is what happens if Yamask was designed by Final Fantasy - that is to say, kind of cartoony but absolutely a monster. Inspired by the Biblical Angels Seraphim and Cherubim, it’s horrifying to behold, and ultimately an amazing design… still never going to let it near our Coromon teams, though. Yikes.

5 Patterbit

Propelled Into Our Hearts

Entry number 73 in the Coromon database is Patterbit, a Normal Type Coromon. It’s the first stage and can evolve twice, into Pitterbyte and then Cyberbite. This Coromon line is considered to be commonly accessible in the wild, but that doesn't take away from its value.

Everything about Patterbit’s robotic design screams Digimon, and the entire evolutionary design is incredible. The reason Patterbit makes the cut instead of its further stages is the hilarious single propeller that suspends it in the air. Also, look at the way Patterbit’s arms drag beneath it; it knows it's ridiculous.

4 Chonktoad

We're Going To Need A Bigger Lilypad

Entry number 80 in the Coromon database is Chonktoad, a Water Type Coromon. It’s the third (and fully evolved) stage of Taddle. This Coromon line is considered to be commonly accessible in the wild, but that doesn't take away from its value.

Chonktoad, as its name implies, is this massive creature, and wouldn’t be out of place in a Studio Ghibli film. It’s kind of like those dogs that are so ugly that they’re cute, only it’s freakishly big and could probably fit you in its gaping mouth.

3 Purrgy/Ghinx/Purrghast

Nine Lives Weren't Enough

Entry numbers 82, 83, and 84 are Purrgy, Ghinx, and Purrghast, respectively, an entire evolutionary line of Ghost Type Coromon. This Coromon line is considered to be commonly accessible in the wild, but that doesn't take away from its value. We couldn’t pick a favorite because they’re all immaculate. They’re a line of ghost cats, what more do we have to say, really?

Purrgy is adorable and tiny, like a kid on Halloween wearing a sheet with eye holes cut out. Ghinx is endearingly vicious, like a beautiful combination of Shuppet and Mimikyu. Purrghast looks like a wise and dangerous mentor with that kitty beard and those magic paws.

2 Daricara

Nothing Beats Style

Entry number 97 in the Coromon database is Daricara, a Water Type Coromon. It’s the second (and fully evolved) stage of Flowish. It's considered to be an uncommon find in the wild, though not impossibly rare. It’s also a friendly beast, even though it can look menacing.

Also, Daricara has a cape. It’s a bipedal aquatic creature with style and a reptilian Fu Manchu. It’s also worth mentioning that its Perfect Form looks like an intentional Hawlucha color pallet swap.

1 Orotchy

Three Heads Are Better Than One

Entry number 104 in the Coromon database is Orotchy, a Ghost Type Coromon. It’s the second (and fully evolved) stage of Otogy. It's considered to be an uncommon find in the wild, though not impossibly rare. Both designs are inspired by Yokai of Japanese folklore, specifically the Orochi.

The eyes on the belly of this thing are haunting, resembling the Homunculi of Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood, but the real draw for Orotchy are the mask-like faces, held arms that double as necks. It’s hard to forget. Believe me, we’ve tried.
