God of War 2018 is four years old as of today, and the game’s director - Cory Barlog - has thanked fans for their continued support. Barlog has also given us a small development update on the status of God of War Ragnarok, claiming that the reason why we’ve heard so little about the game is that everybody at Santa Monica Studio is “heads down” and “hard at work.” He also describes his team as “perfectionists,” possibly insinuating that the majority of the work on the game is done and that it’s just a case of polishing up what they already have.

As for when we’ll be able to see more of the game in action, Barlog claims that there are a bunch of exciting things that are “just not ready to be shown.” However, Barlog also explains that “the very second that we have something that we’re ready to share, we’re gonna share it.”

With God of War Ragnarok still expected to drop at some point in 2022 and still no word on a potential release date, fans have started to worry that God of War Ragnarok will follow other large titles like Breath of the Wild 2 and Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League and slip into 2023. While Barlog’s comments don’t do much to dissuade these fears, at least we know that the team is still working hard on Kratos and Atreus’ next outing.

Something that will give fans a little hope of a 2022 release is a recent comment by Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier who responded to fans on Reddit worried about a delay into 2023. His single-word answer of “nope” when asked whether a delay is coming doesn’t really give us a lot to go on, but Schreier usually has reliable insider information about the game industry. It’s not an official confirmation and the status of God of War Ragnarok could change at any time, but at least it eases worries slightly.
