CR4ZY has decided to release all of its esports rosters due to COVID-19-related issues, the Croatian esports organization revealed yesterday. Antonio Meić, the organization’s CEO, announced this decision in a post on CR4ZY’s website. CR4ZY fielded professional teams in CS:GO, Dota 2, and League of Legends.
The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has affected many aspects of esports, keeping players at home while all live events have been postponed. “Due to the ongoing situation in the world, and esports, caused by the COVID-19 pandemic,” Meić writes, “CR4ZY has decided to split with our esports teams in order to prepare for the upcoming year.” While CR4ZY is releasing all of its players, the organization does not appear to be shutting down completely. Instead, the organization believes it is “the right time to reevaluate our strategy in 2020 and do our best to prepare for 2021.”
CR4ZY fielded teams in multiple competitive titles, as Meić states the organization’s goal for 2020 was “to expand into what we considered most opportunistic esports disciplines.” These included CS:GO, Dota 2, and Rainbow Six Siege. CR4ZY released its Rainbow Six roster earlier this year after narrowly missing out on qualifying for the R6 Pro League.
Meić thanks CR4ZY’s players and staff for their time with the organization. He congratulates the Dota 2 team, who secured top-two finishes at ESL One Birmingham 2020, as well as Beyond The Summit Pro Series Season 3: Americas. Their European CS:GO division peaked at 12th in the World Rankings, winning DreamHack Open Rotterdam 2019 and competing in the StarLadder Berlin Major.
The organization’s League of Legends team mainly competed in the Balkan region, though did place second in the Esports Balkan League Season 7. The team also reached the play-in stage of EU Masters Summer 2020.
“As for CR4ZY itself, we’ll reevaluate everything we’ve done so far and steer our ship towards product development and providing services we consider necessary for our future growth,” Meić says in closing. “We’re preparing some amazing stuff for 2021 and we can’t wait to share it with you.”
All teams were officially released on September 30th. There is currently no word on if or when CR4ZY plans to sign new teams. The organization will focus on smaller esports projects for the remainder of the year.
