After teasing that Spyro is coming to Crash Bandicoot: On The Run, it has been revealed that it is actually Dark Spyro making the crossover.

Crash Bandicoot made his biggest foray onto mobile ever earlier this year via the release of On The Run. Since elements from even the most obscure corners of the Crash universe have already been making appearances, it stands to reason that Spyro might show up too. Even though the two franchises are technically separate, there has been plenty of crossover over the years.

It didn't take long for the arrival of Spyro to be teased. A silhouette of the dragon was tweeted by the game's official Twitter account over the weekend, challenging players to guess who the next boss will be in season three. Well, despite the ease of the guessing game at first glance, it was actually a little more difficult than it seemed.

Spyro isn't coming to On The Run in season three, Dark Spyro is. The reveal was also posted on Twitter and started with Crash in a Spyro skin. Honestly, we're also very hopeful that will be added to the game as well, but no word on that yet. As Crash proceeds to dance, Dark Spyro appears behind him and looks like he has something sinister planned for the fate of the Bandicoot.

On The Run's third season will kick off on June 11, 2021, at which point players will be able to take on Dark Spyro for the first time. While the new boss is the only Spyro character to be confirmed so far, a recent datamine seems to suggest it will be followed by plenty more. In fact, the third season's theme could be Spyro from start to finish, which certainly wouldn't be a bad thing.

As for the full return of Spyro in his own game, that continues to remain unlikely. Activision recently announced that Toys For Bob, the studio responsible for most things Crash and Spyro in the modern-day, is now helping out with Call of Duty: Warzone. The hits will keep on coming for On The Run though, especially after it racked up 24 million downloads in its first week.
