After years of speculation, rumours, and leaks, Wumpa League has finally been revealed at The Game Awards, although it's now named Crash Team Rumble.

Prior to The Game Awards, Activision teased that something new from Crash Bandicoot would be making an appearance at the show through a press kit that was sent out for the Steam release of It's About Time. The Crash Bandicoot Twitter account then decided to screw subtlety and tweeted "So... what's everyone doing tomorrow?" yesterday.

The trailer for Crash Team Rumble confirmed that it's a multiplayer platformer that has two teams fighting against one another to collect as much Wumpa as possible. In the trailer we see that the game runs on the Crash Bandicoot 4 engine and seems to feature much of the same platforming mechanics.

The trailer for Crash Team Rumble also revealed several of the characters that will be playable in the game, including female Nitrous Oxide, Tawna, N.Brio, Dingodile, Neo Cortex, Coco Bandicoot, and an unnamed bat character who seems to have appeared in the ending to It's About Time.

The website for Crash Team Rumble has this description, "Crash Team Rumble is a 4v4 team-based competition where the iconic heroes and villains of the crash universe battle to capture more Wumpa fruit than the other to claim victory. Each hero has unique skills and abilities to strategically use to work together to battle the opposing team, defend their own Wumpa bank, and capture key points around the map to help their team."

As we've written about before, the tale of Wumpa League (now Crash Team Rumble) is a pretty strange one. Originally teased at the end of It's About Time and on the TV in the game's first level, development on the project seemed to stop as Toys for Bob was moved over to work on Call of Duty in the midst of the allegations made towards Activision Blizzard last year.

The project seemed to be cancelled altogether at that point, but teasing has recently begun again, with games journalist Liam Robertson even sharing footage of an alpha version of Wumpa League. Files that made reference to mechanics within Wumpa League were also recently found in the Steam version of It's About Time, which then matched the alpha footage.
