After Spyro's presence in Crash Team Racing was teased earlier this year, we have now been given all the details surrounding the purple dragon-themed Grand Prix event.

Activision is having a lot of fun and making a lot of money via its remasters. It kicked things off with the release of the Crash N.Sane Trilogy, and upped the ante in 2018 as the Spyro Reignited Trilogy joined the Activision remaster family. What most fans were really clamoring for though was the return of Crash Team Racing.

We now have that. Or more specifically, the Nitro-Fueled version. A remastered classic with elements from the two games that followed it too. Trouble is, it wasn't exactly the longest or most in-depth game when first released in 1999. That's why Activision has opted to take a page out of Fortnite's book and include seasons, or Grand Prix as they are called in the CTR universe.

CTR's Grands Prix require players to accumulate Nitro Points which, in turn, will earn them prizes. Those prizes come in the form of karts, skins, decals, and even new racers. This Friday (August 30, 2019) will mark the beginning of the third CTR Grand Prix, and it will be the biggest to date. That's because it will usher in the season of Spyro the Dragon.

It's the aptly named Spyro & Friends Grand Prix and yes, it will allow players the chance to unlock the iconic dragon. He won't be the only character from the Spyro universe players will be playing for either. Hunter the Cheetah and Gnasty Gnorc will also be featured during the Grand Prix season, as was revealed via a PlayStation Blog. Corresponding karts and other items will also be up for grabs.

Hardened CTR players will know that this isn't the first time we have been able to race Spyro and Crash against one another. In Crash Nitro Kart, Spyro was a reward for completing the game's Adventure Mode. On that occasion, Spyro oddly replaced Pura the tiger. We're almost certain that won't be happening this time around. We'll be kicking up quite the fuss if it does as Pura and Polar are our favorite characters. If you don't share that sentiment, you're wrong.
