Crash Team Racing: Nitro Fueled has concluded its Grand Prix series. But there will be no more new tracks made for the game. That said there’s still plenty of content left to unlock and times to beat.

These changes include repurposing reward items. For example, the Champion Kart is now unlocked by beating all Time Trial records on all 40 tracks. Check out these tips on how to tackle these new challenges and how to ready up to beat the developer's times.

11 Check Out the Wumpa Challenges and Pit Stop

One of the biggest features over the original Crash Team Racing comes from items unlocked in the Pit Stop. Some of these challenges are tied to these characters, so be on the lookout for ones that can help you complete more challenges. Bundles can offer discounts if you already own characters, skins or decals part of the bundle.

The replacement to the Grand Prix Challenges are Wumpa Challenges. These challenges cycle between three different kinds of sets; Daily, Weekly and Pro (Monthly) challenges. These challenges typically revolve around using certain characters, playing on certain tracks and playing in certain game modes. The amount of coins earned is not tied to the number of laps or from any difficulty modifier when playing offline.

Wumpa Challenges cycle between three different kinds of sets. Challenges include playing online, using certain characters or playing a game mode.

Then work can go towards skins and decals missing from that point. Bundles can offer discounts if you already own characters, skins or decals part of the bundle.

9 Rev Up Your Engine for the Perfect Boost

Get a boost right out of the starting line to help you start the race with an early lead. Hold down the accelerator at the right moment before the countdown to race start ends to get a boost. But for top speed, rapidly press the accelerator to rev the engine. This allows for a faster boost from the start line.

The boost gauge shows how fast the boost will be. Holding the accelerator too long resets the boost gauge. The Nitro Fueled boost bar indicator helps show the state of your starting line boost. This bar also works for drift boosting as well.

8 Learn About Drift Boosting and How to Keep Your Boost

The most important technique to understand is the drift mechanic. Hold one of the shoulder buttons to drift. The drift gauge in the bottom right corner of the screen will start to fill up. Press the opposite shoulder button while the gauge fills at least over halfway to net a boost. A drift can allow three boosts before having to execute a new one. Press too early and you'll have to try for the next boost. Wait too long and the engine will backfire, requiring you to execute a new drift.

Let the boost gauge fill all the way to execute a perfect boost. Three perfects chained together store a boost. A stored boost lasts longer and increase top speed. If the boost gauge is distracting you, try the Nitro Wheels setting to light your wheels to show when to boost.

7 Learn to Jump and When to Gain a Hang-Time Turbo

Before executing a drift, the drift button will cause your kart to hop. Hang-Time Turbos come from hopping at the apex of a mound or ramp. The more air time earned from a hop will net a longer boost. Smaller hops don't net as strong of a boost you would earn while drifting. Look for opportunities to earn a Hang-Time Turbo off large jumps.

It’s more useful to keep with drift boosting especially when launching off a ramp with a boost pad. Spending time in the air from a small hop can slow the kart down. But jumps, along with other techniques, are useful to clear large gaps to skip parts of the track.

6 Hold Onto Yellow and Blue Fire

Turbo pads can increase your speed as well. These turn the flames to yellow or blue with no real sign on what you'll get. With drift or hang time turbos storage in your kart, the boost you gain from a turbo pad will run out quick. Store a boost to hold a yellow or blue fire. These increase the speed of the kart with blue being the fastest. This is the biggest difference over the PlayStation original.

Look for turbo pads that can increase your speed as well. These turn the flames to yellow or blue with no real sign on what you'll get. Without drift or hang time turbo storage in your kart, the boost you gain from a turbo pad will run out quick.

5 Maintain a Line While Racing

Optimal times need the best possible racing line to keep your speed much like any racing game. Reaching certain heights by hopping can help skip parts of the track. Look out for which boost pads offer up yellow and blue fire. Playing against opponents adds a layer of difficulty, especially with items.

You’ll want to hold an item to protect you from oncoming attacks or to deal with landmine weapons. There are more techniques to make use of that helps keep a top speed. Holding an orange or blue fire boosts is very difficult and requires practice.

4 Master Bunny Hopping and Air U-Turning

Holding a yellow or blue fire is especially tricky unless you master bunny hopping. Hopping allows the kart to make a sharper turn as long as it's in the air. This helps make a new line for drifting on some of the sharper corners.

Holding brake allows for sharper turns, but braking on the road will cause any drift boost to disappear. Braking in the air not only allows for a sharper turn, but also allows the kart to hold its boost. Together these techniques make it easy to turn without losing speed. This is difficult to execute, especially when air U-turning with very short bunny hops. Practice these techniques with a character with a high turn or acceleration stat.

3 Choose Your Preferred Character or Driving Style

Each character varies in three stat categories, Speed, Acceleration and Turn. When learning a track, pick a character with high turn or high acceleration. To go for the fastest times try a character with the highest speed.

Developer Beenox has also added the ability to select a driving style. These can override character stats to let you play as any character with stat preference. The driving style does not affect any of the character-based Wumpa Challenges. So pick your gameplay style with your favorite character.

2 Item Use and Item Smuggling

Items can upset the race in many ways. They break up race lines, block attacks and help access shortcuts. Try experimenting with which items will let you fire backward or forward. Wumpa fruit not only increases your top speed but also provides stronger weapons.

For a sneakier approach, sometimes you’ll earn an item such as a mask or a Warp Pod that upsets the racing pack. In some cases, it's best to hold these items as opposed to using them immediately. Let other players make use of their items to break up the pack. Later in the race, you’ll have an opportunity to keep an item for defense or to secure a sizable lead.

1 Play a Track in Ring Rally Mode

The ring rally mode is actually a great way to learn about a track. Rings will appear in specific areas, especially on paths that lead to shortcuts big and small. Passing through rings will net a boost and can chain together for a high score.

They will start to grow smaller and net faster boosts with each successive lap. Even without perfect drift boosts, the game will send players at fast speeds. These can help clear large gaps, gain height and cut corners.
