Crimson Desert is an upcoming MMORPG currently in development by Korean development studio Pearl Abyss, and first impressions are that it is gorgeous. The official reveal trailer dropped last month, showing a suitably bloody-but-beautiful new world that MMO fans will get to sink their teeth (or battle-axes) into next year.

Crimson Desert is one of multiple MMOs Pearl Abyss has to its name, others including 2014's Black Desert and its spin-off set in the same universeShadow Arena. The latter was also only just announced a few days after the announcement of Crimson Desert.  Pearl Abyss seems to be on an MMO mission.

Pearl Abyss just released a set of official screenshots from Crimson Desert few days ago, and we have just one word: wow.

Judging by the media released so far, the world of Crimson Desert appears to have it all. Sprawling, breathtaking landscapes, bloody battles, dragons, snow, giants in chains, fur coats. Yes, it sounds suspiciously like Game Of Thronesand well, it looks suspiciously like Game Of Thrones too in many ways. The main star of the trailer also looks suspiciously like a certain King in the North, too.

There's surely more to him that being Jon Snow's doppelgänger, though. Similarly, there's surely more to the Crimson Desert universe than being a Westeros-Skyrim hybrid. It's still a bit early to be making too many judgement calls, especially seeing as we don't even know when this new MMORPG will be gracing us with its presence. Hopefully the devs don't rush this one too much, though. Indeed, they seem to pride themselves on taking as much time as is needed to build something great:

We are creators that are willing to break boundaries,

reflect on our creations and start back at square one if necessary.

That is the very essence of Pearl Abyss.

Crimson Desert does look like it has some real potential to be a breathtaking experience. Time will tell, and hopefully we'll get treated to some more eye candy until then. We're waiting on the edge of our Iron Thrones.
