Smilegate Entertainment offered a fresh look at CrossfireX, showing off updated graphics for three multiplayer maps. According to the devs, everything’s going according to plan, and the game is about to hit Xbox platforms sometime later in 2021.

The executive producer of CrossfireX revealed the latest graphical improvements for the title’s maps, greatly enhanced in detail since the beta to increase the immersion for the players. Maps like Babylon, Invasion, and Babylon Lab will allow for new combat opportunities that have yet to be seen in the Crossfire franchise. The Smilegate team has released three new videos for each of the reworked maps, displaying their lightning and shadow enhancements, and impressive new reflections.

In addition to overall better graphics, CrossfireX will also get a new in-game mechanic called the Tactical Growth system. In certain game modes, the players will be able to choose special upgrades for a limited time. These upgrades will grant bonuses for offense (increased damage), defense (tactical shield), and recovery (health regeneration). The system will allow you to react to the current situation and quickly adapt where necessary. Moreover, some multiplayer modes will get three phases in a round instead of two like in beta.

CrossfireX will consist of two parts: the free-to-play multiplayer from Smilegate and a premium single-player campaign from Remedy, known for its cinematic approach. Despite that the last story trailer was released more than a year ago, the game seems to be shaping up nicely. It will be interesting to see how the studio will handle this project, as Finnish devs made a name for themselves with third-person action titles, while CrossfireX will be your traditional FPS.

Apart from the story campaign for CrossfireX, Remedy Entertainment has plenty of other projects in the works. Earlier, the studio revealed it is working on a co-op multiplayer spin-off set in the Control universe. In addition, the devs teased at least five new games in development with plans to own at least three long-term franchises by 2025.

Originally planned for launch in 2020, CrossfireX is now on track to launch sometime later this year for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
