The Crown Tundra DLC for Pokemon Sword & Shield is finally here, and it's adding several Legendary Pokemon from the Unova region to the game. Here's how to catch Cobalion in the Crown Tundra.

Cobalion was introduced in Pokemon Black & White as one of the members of the Swords of Justice, alongside Terrakion, Virizion, and Keldeo. Since then, they have been given away during events and can be caught in Pokemon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire, as well as in Pokemon Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon.

Pokemon Crown Tundra Frigid Sea

Once you join Peony's expedition in Freezington, you can spot a set of blue footprints near a tree at the edge of town. Examine them, and Sonia from Pokemon Sword & Shield will appear. Sonia mentions that the footprints can be used to find specific Legendary Pokemon that have been spotted in the Crown Tundra area.

Similar to the Alolan Diglett hunt in the Isle of Armor, the player needs to search the area for blue footprints. These can be found in the area southeast of Freezington and are easy to spot, as they stand out from the texture of the floor. Once you have accumulated 100% of the footprints, return to Sonia and report your findings. She will mention that the Iron Will Pokemon has appeared in the Frigid Sea.

Cobalion Crown Tundra Encounter

The quickest way to reach the Frigid Sea is by fast-traveling to Three-Point Pass. This is the Regi Temple in the hook-shaped part of the map near the beach on the East side of the Crown Tundra map. Fast travel to Three Point Pass and head out into the Frigid Sea. You should notice a large landmass with grass and a tree jutting out of it. Head onto this landmass and reach the tree. Cobalion can be seen strutting around. Run into it for a fight.

Pokemon Crown Tundra Cobalion Guide — How To Catch Cobalion

Cobalion is going to be a tough battle, unless you're willing to part with the Master Ball Peony gives you in Freezington after your first Max Lair experience. Cobalion is a level 70 Steel/Fighting-type Pokemon with access to powerful moves like Sacred Sword and Swords Dance. A Ghost-type Pokemon like Gengar or Dragapult is helpful for this fight, as it will be immune to its Fighting-type moves. Bring lots of Ultra Balls if you intend to take down this member of the Swords of Justice without throwing away your Master Ball, and be sure to save beforehand — this isn't a Dynamax battle, so if you make Cobalion faint it will be gone. Get it down to low HP using super-effective moves and then focus on keeping your own Pokemon alive while throwing as many Ultra Balls as possible.
