It turns out that Paradox had to dial down the AI to prevent it from attempting to “constantly” seduce female players.

Crusader Kings 3 is almost here, and Paradox Interactive is making sure that players are aware of the upcoming changes to their beloved grand strategy dynasty simulator. The latest developer update has programmer Magne Skjæran go over the entire game from graphics to artificial intelligence, and he even has a few interesting tidbits to tell about Crusader Kings 3's development.

One of them has to do with seduction, a mechanic that has long been in the Crusader Kings franchise. Seduction basically allows you to get in bed with people, provided you meet certain requirements. You can't seduce current or former lovers, parents, or children (thank God), and you can't seduce someone who's celibate or simply not attracted to the seducer's gender.

But if you put the moves on, seduction can have a number of effects in-game that are both good and bad. On the positive side, seduction will get someone to think of the seducer more positively and may eventually lead to bastard children that can then form alliances, make claims to hereditary lines, and do all sorts of fun diplomatic stuff.

On the downside, if you treat those children poorly they could come after your throne.

Skjæran noted that in earlier iterations of Crusader Kings 3 there was another downside if the player was a female character--the AI would try to woo them constantly.

"Sometimes we will have to have some restrictions on the AI for how it interacts with the player just so that it doesn't get overwhelming or frustrating,” Skjæran said. “The prime example here is seduction, where at various stages in the game we've needed to tweak the rules there so that if the player is playing a woman rather than a man they just don't get a hundred seduction attempts constantly. While that might sadly be quite realistic in some ways it's not an experience you want in the game or in reality."

Yeah, probably not.
