Following the first image of Crysis 4 leaking online, Crytek has officially confirmed that a next entry in the first-person shooter series is indeed in development. From what we've been shown so far, the new chapter could be even darker than the original trilogy.

Crytek dropped the official announcement trailer on YouTube today. "It's time to join the journey and be the hero," the reveal says, showing us some vague images of nanoparticles and destroyed buildings. You can also see the Nanosuit helmet lying on the ground among the ruins.

Little is known about Crysis 4 at this point, aside from the confirmation that the series' hallmark — Nanosuits that grants you extraordinary combat abilities — will make its return.

As for a release date, Crytek CEO Avni Yerli says that, "right now the game is in the early stages of development, so it will be a while yet." Yerli also said that "the team is working hard to bring you a truly next-gen shooter", meaning we're hopefully in store for more of the impressive visuals the series is known for.

The studio aims to listen to the community as the project's development progresses to ensure "the next installment in the franchise lives up to all of your expectations." As the team explains, "Crysis is incredibly important to so many people," and the devs "really can't wait to reveal more details about what lies ahead."

Shortly before the official reveal, the first image of Crysis 4 was posted by Crytek's official account on the Chinese social media site BiliBili, Eurogamer reported. It showed grim scenery, suggesting some kind of post-apocalyptic setting for the game. As described on the website, "The 'Crysis 4' project is confirmed, opening a new nano battlefield!"

The Crysis series began back in 2007 and received two follow-ups. The trilogy got a remaster treatment recently, launching last October across PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch. The bundle only includes the single-player story campaigns with no multiplayer available for the players.
