Like most games that have launched on the cusp of next-gen, Crysis Remastered has been available to play on the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, but it's been hamstrung the whole time thanks to playing in backward compatibility mode. This meant that players weren't getting the full Remastered experience, which had thus far been the sole remit of PC gamers.
Rather than shell out way too much money for an RTX graphics card, Crysis fans lucky enough to have snagged a PS5 or Xbox Series X/S can now finally experience the true power of their consoles thanks to Crysis Remastered's next-gen update.
There are three modes to choose from when playing Crysis Remastered on a PS5, Xbox Series X, or Xbox Series S. Performance Mode will provide a solid 60 fps at 1080p resolution on all three consoles. Quality Mode will target 1800p on the PS5 and 2160p (4K) on the Xbox Series X while trying to maintain 60 fps but expect lower average frame rates than Performance Mode. The Xbox Series S will surprisingly also provide 4K graphics but at 30 fps.
RayTracing Mode will run at 1440p/60 fps on both PS5 and Xbox Series X, but 1080p/30 fps on the Xbox Series S.
It's interesting Crysis Remastered can't seem to hit 4K on the PS5 regardless of what mode you choose. Perhaps this is the clearest indicator yet that the Xbox Series X just has overall stronger potential performance than the Sony console provided devs optimize for it.
Even if you're playing Crysis Remastered on older-gen consoles, the latest patch still provides you with a few new goodies. The classic Nanosuit menu returns in case you prefer it over the new-style menu, and the brand new Ascension level arrives for a new challenge. There are also over 100 bug fixes slash performance improvements that will enhance your overall Crysis experience.
And if you're a Crysis Remastered PC player, you already got a DLSS update for Nvidia RTX cards last month, so let the console folks have a little love.
