Today’s matches at the CS:GO Berlin Major saw young Russian squad DreamEaters and Swedish veterans Ninjas in Pyjamas being eliminated from the tournament. These are the first two teams to be eliminated from Major contention.

DreamEaters put their names on the CS:GO map after the Berlin Major’s main qualifier, where they managed to qualify for the next stage in spite of their inexperience. Many had predicted that they would be eliminated from that stage without taking any wins, though they proved any doubters wrong after completing massive upsets over both NRG and Vitality.

Being a low-seeded team, DreamEaters had a mountain ahead of them in the New Legends Stage. After falling to both Astralis and Natus Vincere - two high-ranked teams heavily favored to make a deep run this tournament - they had one more chance to secure their spot in 2020’s first Major. They then faced off against Australian team Renegades, where they fell 0-2 in the elimination best-of-three. Per last year’s Major rule change, an 0-3 elimination in the group stage now sends teams back to their respective Minor circuit. DreamEaters will now have to compete in the CIS Minor in order to make it to 2020’s first Major tournament.

The second team eliminated from Major contention today was Ninjas in Pyjamas, a Swedish squad full of familiar names and veteran skill. The roster was forced to play the tournament with a stand-in since newcomer Nicolas “Plopski” Gonzalez Zamora was not permitted to play per the Major’s roster-lock rules. Their stand-in was former Fnatic and Cloud9 in-game leader Maikil "golden" Selim, though he was not calling the shots for NiP this tournament.

The Ninjas first met Brazilian squad MIBR in the opening round, another team fielding a stand-in. After a relatively close battle, MIBR pulled out a 16-12 victory. NiP then went on to face upcoming Serbian team CR4ZY, who defeated the Swedes after an intense match on Train. With one last chance, NiP squared off against North. North took two dominant victories in the elimination best-of-three, with NiP putting together 12 rounds total over the two maps played. With that loss, NiP was eliminated from the tournament and sent back to the European Minor for 2020's first Major cycle.

Recent news also suggests that this was Christopher "GeT_RiGhT" Alesund's last tournament with the Ninjas. NiP's next appearance will come at BLAST Pro Series Moscow on September 13th, though it is currently unclear what roster they will field at that event.
