Cuphead’s Delicious Last Course has just arrived, which has Cuphead speedrunners returning to the game for the first time in a long while. For most, Cuphead remains hard enough that simply dusting off the cobwebs is plenty challenging, but speedrunner EazySpeezy decided to add the additional task of trying to speedrun Cuphead while hiking up a mountain.

EazySpeezy’s setup was relatively simple: duct tape a laptop to a backpack, add a bit of scaffolding so that the laptop remains open and relatively steady, and then conscript a friend to go hiking up a mountain while wearing said backpack. The summit of Mount Mansfield was the chosen destination, which meant EazySpeezy and company had to climb 2,790 feet to the top.

For the first half of the journey, EazySpeezy was able to make fairly good progress playing Cuphead while walking up a mostly clear path. Things got trickier after reaching the second island, dying on both Beppi the Clown and Grim Matchstick. A few sections of the climb required EazySpeezy to pause and focus on his footing, which meant that the clock was still running even though EazySpeezy wasn’t playing.

At around three hours and 40 minutes, EazySpeezy and his crew reach the summit of Mount Mansfield for a well-deserved Cuphead break. That’s where EazySpeezy took on Rumor Honeybottoms, an all-too-appropriate boss given the quantity of real-life bugs that EazySpeezy had to fight off at the summit. You can see him take a few swats in the upper left camera view.

EazySpeezy didn’t play at all during the descent, which meant that he didn’t get back to Cuphead until six and a half hours in. EazySpeezy’s laptop finally died during the car ride, and he wasn’t able to get to an outlet until getting back to the hotel. All in all, the whole run took just over eight hours. That’s significantly longer than the current speedrun record of 28 minutes, but still probably faster than I’d be able to manage in the comfort of my own living room.
