Curious Expedition 2 is a roguelite adventure game that will test your decision-making abilities, strategy, and luck. As you begin your journey through the various islands of this fictional version of Earth, you'll want to do everything you can to prepare.
The world of Curious Expedition 2 can be challenging and unforgiving, but we're here to help you navigate your first steps. Let's take a look at few tips that will help make your start in Curious Expedition 2 a little easier.
Budget For Sanity
As you will quickly come to learn, Sanity is one of the most important things to keep track of during your explorations. To that end, we recommend using your starting budget to purchase Alcohol and Chocolate each time you begin a new exploration. These items will come in handy when you're far away from a rest spot and are running low on precious Sanity.
If you have any leftover cash, you can either save it for merchants you may encounter while exploring, or spend it on useful items like First Aid Kits or Climbing Gear.
Upgrade Each Club
There are three Explorer Clubs that you can join in Curious Expedition 2; The Royal Avalon Society, Lux Labs, and Taishi Academy. When you complete an exploration, all the rewards you collected will be donated to the Club of your choosing, allowing you to upgrade and unlock new items for each Club.
At the start of the game, we recommend rotating frequently between each Club. The items you unlock at early levels of each Club will be of great use early in the game, so you should try and buy them all up as soon as possible. Additionally, each Club offers important perks that are great for the early game, like being able to train up new characters or upgrade weapons.
Stick To The Objective
From the second you begin an exploration on a new island, the countdown will begin until the island is covered in the mysterious purple mist. This is essentially a turn limit that is in place during every exploration. Make sure you're not spending too much time moving around aimlessly, unless you want to be caught in the purple mist and forced to flee.
Because of this, we recommend sticking to your objective on your first few explorations. Until you get a feel for how to effectively explore each island, it's better to focus on clearing your main objective before you die or are forced to retreat.
Move Efficiently
Each time you begin your turn during exploration, you will have to spend a certain amount of Sanity as your travel start cost. This means that it's more efficient to move long distances at once, rather than multiple short distances.
Moving more tiles at once will cost you less Sanity in the long run, and you'll want to do everything you can to keep every point of Sanity.
Rest Often
As you explore islands, you will come across villages, waterfalls, and other areas that are fit for a quick rest. Try to take every opportunity you can to freely restore Sanity through resting, as they don't usually come by often. This will allow you to save some of your precious Sanity restoring items like Chocolate, at the cost of a few days time.
However, as mentioned above, you're always on the clock while exploring. Keep an eye on the purple mist as it approaches, and be sure to only rest if you can spare the time.
Bring A Variety Of Explorers
There are a ton of different types of explorers you can recruit with you on your adventures. Whether they are focused on combat, exploration, or diplomacy, we recommend bringing a few different characters with you. Not only will a diversity of explorers help in more difficult combat situations, you'll also have more options while exploring islands.
Try to bring explorers that specialize in combat, medicine, and translation for a well-rounded party that can tackle the early explorations.
Improve Standing
Each island you explore is home to a group of villagers that you can raise (or decrease) your Standing with. Upon discovering the villagers, your Standing will be neutral, but you can increase it by completing requests, giving them gifts, or helping them out in battle.
Alternatively, there are a few things you can do that will decrease your Standing with the village. Each time you rest at the village, your Standing with the villagers will decrease. Additionally, hunting enemies nearby or stealing precious artifacts can also have a negative impact on your Standing.
We recommend choosing your activities carefully to maintain good Standing with the villagers. They can provide helpful bonuses like aiding you in combat or giving you gifts when you rest at the village, which can be invaluable in your early explorations.
